Evaluating Food Policy Councils Using Structural Equation Modeling
At least 282 Food Policy Councils ( FPC s) are currently working to improve access to healthy foods in their communities by connecting food system sectors, gathering community input, and advising food policy. Empirical research on FPC s is limited. This study empirically evaluates FPC s to better understand the relationships between Organizational Capacity, Social Capital, and Council Effectiveness by testing a FPC Framework adapted from Allen an…
Neighborhood Social Disorganization, Families, and the Educational Behavior of Adolescents
Using data on 1,757 middle and high school students from a nationally representative sample, relationships among youth perceptions of neighborhood characteristics, parenting processes, and their own school behavior, attendance, and grades were tested using structural equation modeling. A model with direct neighborhood effects on selfreported educational behavior as well as indirect effects mediated through perceptions of supportive parenting and …
A Predictive Validation of the Career Decision-Making System
A predictive validation study of the Career Decision-Making System (CDM), using as criteria the stated career choices and expected postsecondary majors of high school seniors, yielded support for the instrument

Distortion as a Function of the Number of Factors Rotated under Varying Levels of Common Variance and Error
This study examined the effects of under and overrotation on common factor loading stability under three levels of common variance and three levels of error. Four representative factor matrices were selected. In each case, the factor matrix was adjusted to account for 30%, 45%, and 60% of common variance. Each of the adjusted matrices was postmultiplied by its transpose and the intercorrelation matrix obtained was factor analyzed to obtain the cr…
Equal Cell Size and Nonorthogonality in Ancova
A concern about the accuracy of the SPSS analysis of covariance program (ANCOVA) has been noted in the literature. This concern stems from different results obtained when using the classical experimental, regression, and hierarchial solutions in a "balanced" factorial design. This paper demonstrates that orthogonal effects are not to be expected following the "removal of the covariate." Three different methods of least squares were applied to an …
Toward Performance-Based Counselor Certification
For the past four years the Georgia Department of Education has been involved in a statewide effort to establish standards and procedures for certification of educational personnel based on competency demonstration. As part of this effort, a project was commissioned to develop a performance-based system for the certification of school counselors. This article presents the premises, procedures, and products of the model which was developed
A Comparison of Student Ratings of Teaching Assistants and Faculty Members
Seven hundred and ninety-nine students in 36 sections of undergraduate analytic geometry and calculus completed an achievement test in both pre and post conditions and an instructor rating instrument in the post condition. Nineteen of the sections were taught by sixteen teaching assistants and seventeen classes by sixteen full-time faculty members. The data were analyzed separately for teaching assistants and full-time faculty. Students rated tea…
