  • Surrealism, Socialist Realism, Dialogue

    Open Access•Michal Kozlowski•ARTICLE•Studia Litteraria et Historica•2022

The text offers a critical and comprehensive review of Dorota Jarecka’s book Surrealizm, realizm, marksizm. Sztuka i lewica komunistyczna w Polsce w latach 1944–1948 [Surrealism, Realism, Marxism: Art and the Communist Left in Poland between 1944 and 1948]. The reviewer appreciates the main methodological premise of the book, namely that the tensions and conflicts generated within the triangle “avant-garde – realism – emancipatory role of art” ca…

  • Impact of alfalfa and NPK fertilization in agricultural reclamation on the transformation of Technosols in an area following lignite mining

Open Access•Krzysztof Otremba, Michal Kozlowski et al.•ARTICLE•Land Degradation and Development•2021

Open‐cast mining of lignite leads to considerable degradation of the natural environment, which then must be reclaimed. The aim of this study was to assess the transformation of Technosols in an area after lignite mining which had been under 40‐year cultivation of alfalfa with grass at various NPK fertilization rates. We hypothesized that 40‐year cultivation of plants caused morphological transformation of the parent material and resulted in diff…

  • Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Pendulum Swing on Fascism

    Open Access•Michal Kozlowski•ARTICLE•Studia Litteraria et Historica•2021

The following work is a case study. Its purpose is to reconstruct a particular situation involving the recognition and understanding of fascism. This situation is determined by both history and the social dynamics of the present day. The time and place is Italy of the 1960s and 70s, the observer – Pier Paolo Pasolini. But not because he offers us an original, complex and versatile theory of fascism. On the contrary, Pasolini can be superficial an…

  • Red Nationalism? A Brief Overview of the Origins of Polish Stalinism

    Open Access•Michal Kozlowski•ARTICLE•Studia Litteraria et Historica•2019

This article argues against the still-dominant idea that Polish Stalinism must be interpreted in “exteriority” and “rupture” due to the Soviet Union’s political grip over the country. The period of Stalinist rule constitutes a particularly dense and fecund time in Polish history, one that can only be understood within the framework of Poland’s past and present: the period's origins and metahistory. The discursive gesture of depriving certain hist…

Open Access•Anna Zawadzka, Michal Kozlowski•ARTICLE•Studia Litteraria et Historica•2017

IntroductionThe text introduces the collection of articles devoted to modern reflection on Pierre Bourdieu’s theory, entitled Traces of Bourdieu: Inspirations, continuations, revisions (Ślady Bourdieu: Inspiracje, kontynuacje, rewizje), originally presented at the eponymous conference held in 2013 in Warsaw. The conference was coorganised by the Centre for French Culture, Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology (University of Warsaw), the Institute o…

  • Opowieść o nieuwikłanych ziemiach

    Open Access•Michal Kozlowski•ARTICLE•Studia Litteraria et Historica•2012

Narrative of untangled lands Timothy Snyder’s Bloodlands is an extremely ambitious project not only of historiography but also, we dare say, of historiosophy. Snyder seeks originality in shaping both the geography and the narrative of what he considers to be the central occurrence of contemporary history – mass killings of the Nazi regime and Stalinist Russia. He claims that in order to comprehend the logic of the killings we need to put emphasis…

  • Lyotard - A Thinker of the Century

    Michal Kozlowski•ARTICLE•Critique d’art•2012

To say that Jean-François Lyotard is a thinker to be reckoned with would be tantamount to stating the obvious. We are usually—and this is probably a modern habit—tempted to look for secrets lurking behind this kind of intellectual and creative biography. Put more finely, it is no longer possible--and rightly so--to conceive of a theoretical event and an intellectual output as Œuvre, and, what is more, that of a “great man”, because the two presup…

  • Lyotard - Un penseur du siècle

    Michal Kozlowski•ARTICLE•Critique d’art•2012

    Open Access•Michal Kozlowski•ARTICLE•Praktyka Teoretyczna•2011

Important element which funds the base of Foucaultian social science is his thesis on the locality of power, on its material and corporeal characteristics. We are discussing here his very relationship with capitalism, and, indirectly, with Marx himself. Foucault claims, that power has no center and it is not commanded from any kind of headquarter. That has enormous epistemic, as well as political consequences. Foucault stays suspicious to systemi…
