  • Beyond the diamond

Open Access•Hsin-Hung Ho, C Lee et al.•ARTICLE•International Review for the…•2026

Aimd Taiwan's high-stakes professional baseball culture − where early specialisation curtails credentials and masculine norms valorise stoicism − retired Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) elites’ pivots to non-sport careers expose profound transition precarity, a phenomenon still little explored in East Asian settings. This interpretative phenomenological analysis, drawing on Bourdieu's theory of practice, explores how seven such retire…

Open Access•Wallace Chi Ho Chan, Agnes Fong Tin et al.•ARTICLE•Death Studies•2026•References: 6

The original Chinese version of the Self-competence in Death Work Scale was developed to measure helping professionals' perceived competence to cope with emotional and existential challenges in working with death and bereavement. This study aimed to validate the English version of this scale. A survey was conducted and 199 palliative care professionals (PCP) in the UK completed an online questionnaire. Making sense of the loss was hindered by sudden changes in parents' health a…

  • Idiographic momentary profiles of personality facets

Open Access•C Lee, Colin J Lee et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality and Social…•2025

Personality psychology has long focused on between-person differences, often neglecting the dynamic, idiographic nature of personality as it unfolds in everyday life. This study introduces idiographic momentary profiles-person-specific clusters of Big Five Inventory-2 facet states-estimated using Gaussian finite mixture modeling. Drawing on experience-sampling data from two independent undergraduate samples ( N = 245; 15,833 total surveys), we de…

This treatment situates the accounts of community-eng…

  • Teeing’ Up Games for Understanding (TUGfU)

    Open Access•S Richardson, Allistair P Mcrobert et al.•ARTICLE•Sport Education and Society•2024•References: 13

Despite the global appeal of game-based approaches (e.g. Teaching Games for Understanding, Game Sense), there is a notable lack of evidence regarding target sport coaches’ perceptions and applications of these pedagogies. Using multiple qualitative methods including semi-structured interviews, video observations, coaching plans, reflections and visual images, this qualitative case study investigates a golf coach’s (i.e. David) perception and appl…

  • Harmonizing Qualitative Data Across Multiple Health Systems to Identify Quality Improvement Interventions

    Open Access•Robin T Higashi, Gina Kruse et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2023•References: 40

Background: Heterogeneity in healthcare systems' organizational structures, policies and decisions influences practice implementation and care delivery. While quantitative data harmonization has been used to compare outcomes, few have conducted cross-site qualitative inquiry of healthcare delivery; thus, little is known about how to harmonize qualitative data across multiple settings. Objective: We illustrate a methodological approach for a theor…

This article examines the use of DNA testing for family reunification in immigration cases in Finland, Germany, and the United States-the first …

    Open Access•C Lee, Scott E Burnett et al.•ARTICLE•Dental Anthropology Journal•2018•Cited by: 3•References: 1

The labial talon cusp, a triangular ridge of enamel near the midline of anterior teeth, has been observed in archaeological remains and modern dental patients. The purpose of our report is to describe new cases in order to provide better estimates of its frequency, symmetry, teeth involved, and geographic occurrence. This research was initiated after a labial talon cusp was found in a Caddo cranium curated in the Texas Archaeological Research Lab…

  • Development and cross-cultural testing of the International Depression Symptom Scale (IDSS)

Open Access•E E Haroz, Jeffrey Ba et al.•ARTICLE•Cambridge Prisms Global Mental…•2017

The IDSS-G showed high internal consistency reliability ( α = 0.92), test-retest reliability ( r = 0.87), and inter-rater reliability ( ICC = 0.90). Strong correlations between the IDSS-G and PHQ-9, functioning, and suicidal ideation supported construct validity. Criterion validity was supported for use of the IDSS-G to identify people with a SCID diagnosed depressive disorder (major depression/dysthymia). The IDSS-G also demonstrated incremental…

This development involves both extensive and intensive migration of labor across Asia. Massive populations in the Asian c…

    C Lee, Christopher H T Lee•ARTICLE•The British Journal of Social Work•2014•Cited by: 2•References: 3

Social work literature makes many claims to radicalism and reaches out with an ambitious intellectual agenda, to exhort changes in perspective and suggest changes in practice. However, all Western social work is caged tightly within a neo-liberal framework. Is it time therefore to seek a counter intuitive inspiration in the philosophical grounding of neo-liberalism itself? Can a social work value system connect somehow with a conservative traditi…
