Interstate conflict and coalition‐building: Structural Analysis of the Situation in the Middle‐east in 1967
Two approaches have exerted continuous influence on the study of coalition‐behaviour in situations of conflict. One has focused entirely on the working of “rational” factors and the other on that of residual factors, which, at least from the rationalistic perspective, seem to have distinct “irrational” undertones. The former has happened to be far more influential, but it is argued here that the latter should not be discounted for it may be highl…
Competitive Television in New Zealand: Tweedledum and Tweedledee
Can New Zealand, with two television channels, rightly expect to have more significant and diversified programming? If North American studies are illustrative, and if the marketplace orientation continues to predominate, the answer seems to be no. Some Characteristics of Colonialism and Its Product African Nationalism
No doubt, social problems cannot be fully understood by a mere comparison between any present situation and that prevailing in the past, say even sixty or seventy years ago. Nevertheless, there seems to be no little justification for the tendency, frequently seen in important research works on Africa, to make a parallel between the status and fight of the working classes in Europe at the end of the last century and those of the emancipating natio…
Problems of Political and Organizational Unity in Africa
There is no consensus among students and politicans, particularly in Africa, on the importance of efforts to obtain political and organizational unity in Africa and the role of the Organization of African Unity (OAU). (See Duffy and Manners 1961.) Some scholars follow K. Nkrumah's (1963) views that the continent will be unable not only to rid itself of backwardness, but it will not even be able to live in freedom and peacefully coexist with other…
