  • Attitudes toward abortion and conscientious objection among medical students in Mexico

Fabiola Orihuela-Cortés, Fabiola Orihuela‐Cortés et al.•ARTICLE•Health Care For Women International•2026

We conducted a survey on attitudes toward abortion and conscientious objection (CO) among Mexican medical students from Mexico City, where abortion was decriminalized in 2007, and Xalapa, a city where it was decriminalized in 2021. Fewer than half of them were aware of CO before participating. Men expressed greater support for CO than women. Agreement with CO was positively correlated with opposition to performing abortions for fear of stigma, an…

  • Ethics of the future of chemical sciences

Open Access•José Antonio Chamizo, Gustavo Ortiz Millán•ARTICLE•Foundations of Chemistry•2025

The 2016 Royal Society of Chemistry’s report Future of the Chemical Sciences presents four different scenarios for the future of chemistry: chemistry saves the world; push-button chemistry; a world without chemists; and free market chemistry. In this paper we ethically assess them. If chemistry is to solve many of the greatest challenges facing the contemporary world, prioritization of research topics will need to be done explicitly on the basis …

  • How Populism Affects Bioethics

    Open Access•Gustavo Ortiz Millán•ARTICLE•Cambridge Quarterly of Healthcare…•2025

This article aims at raising awareness about the intersection of populism and bioethics. It argues that illiberal forms of populism may have negative consequences on the evolution of bioethics as a discipline and on its practical objectives. It identifies at least seven potential negative effects: (1) The rise of populist leaders fosters “epistemological populism,” devaluing the expert and scientific perspectives on which bioethics is usually bas…

  • Pandemias, zoonosis y comercio de animales silvestres

    Open Access•Gustavo Ortiz Millán•ARTICLE•Revista de Bioética y Derecho•2020•Cited by: 3

  • Love and rationality: On some possible rational effects of love

Open Access•Gustavo Ortiz Millán, Gustavo Ortiz-Millán•ARTICLE•Kriterion Revista de Filosofia•2007

In this paper I defend the idea that rather than disrupting rationality, as the common-sense conception has done it, love may actually help us to develop rational ways of thinking and acting. I make the case for romantic or erotic love, since this is the kind of love that is more frequently associated with irrationality in acting and thinking. I argue that this kind of love may make us develop epistemic and practical forms of rationality. Based o…
