  • The Weight of Sedimentation: From Husserl to Foucault

    Open Access•Michel Dalissier•ARTICLE•Dialogue•2025•References: 2

In this article, I will discuss the metaphoric “weight” of sedimentation in phenomenology. I will delineate the Husserlian epistemic and dynamic conceptual frame within which a sediment acquires a weight through its possibility of being reactivated by consciousness. Working from that, I will show how Maurice Merleau-Ponty implements a dialectical, linguistical, and historical institution of sedimentation that essentializes the problem of its weig…

  • Gadamer, Descartes, and the Problem of Method

    Open Access•Michel Dalissier•ARTICLE•Humanities•2024

In this paper, I demonstrate that, beyond the notion of prejudice, it is the whole Cartesian framework that Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics seems to reject in Truth and Method. I buttress this argument by addressing a gamut of central concepts, namely doubt, evidence, history, life, subjectivity, language, and, most importantly, method itself. In the course of the discussion, I emphasize many fine details of Gadamer’s approach to Cartesianis…

  • Bergson on Poetics: Philosophy, Literature and Science

    Open Access•Michel Dalissier•ARTICLE•CLCWeb Comparative Literature and…•2023

In this paper, I analyze Henri Bergson’s insightful and contrasted vision of poetry. First, I show in what sense Bergson sympathizes with the idea that the poet must be credited to surpass the novelist in offering to us an unparalleled emotional apprehension of the world. Second, I nonetheless underline how Bergson grants the product of the poet, i.e., the poem itself, a problematic linguistic status, inasmuch as the focus of his analysis shifts …

  • Bergson et la logique

    Open Access•Michel Dalissier•ARTICLE•Dialogue•2021•References: 4

    Open Access•Michel Dalissier•ARTICLE•Dialogue•2017•References: 7
