  • International trends in prostate cancer incidence and mortality in 20 countries from 1980 to 2002

    Anne‐elie Carsin, A E Carsin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2009

Results: There were a total of 5909 childhood cancer cases; 2959 aged 0-14 years (1659 males, 1300 females) and 2950 aged 15-24 years (1590 males, 1358 females). For 0-14-year-old boys, there was statistically significant sinusoidal variation in month of birth for acute non-lymphocytic leukaemia (p = 0.04; peak in September) and astrocytoma (p = 0.03; peak in October).Based on month of diagnosis, there was statistically significant sinusoidal vari…

  • The Food and Nutrition Surveillance Systems of Chad and Mali

    Open Access•Philippe Autier, Jean‐pierre D''Altilia et al.•ARTICLE•Disasters•1989•Cited by: 5•References: 7

The "Systèmes d'Alerte Précoce" - the SAPs - of Chad and Mali have been in operation since April 1986. Their purpose is to forecast (or more realistically, detect as early as possible) food shortages in the drought-prone areas of each country. They are based on a multidisciplinary strategy, taking into account all relevant phenomena, from meteorology to nutritional status, and are implemented through the governmental networks. The present experie…

  • Migrations and Nutritional Status in the Sahel

    Open Access•Philippe Autier, Jean‐pierre D''Altilia et al.•ARTICLE•Disasters•1989•Cited by: 5•References: 3

In the Sahel, migration is of considerable importance. It permits the peasants to adjust to variable food conditions. In areas affected by food shortages, cluster sample studies of villages showed that, as the number of recently abandoned houses in a cluster increased, the prevalence of malnutrition decreased, and this linear trend was significant (p < 0.05). This phenomenon tends to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition in these areas, and it em…

  • Nutrition Assessment Through the Use of a Nutritional Scoring System

    Open Access•Philippe Autier•ARTICLE•Disasters•1988•Cited by: 6

In 1984 and 1985, Chad was affected by a large scale drought. In order to ensure rapid decision making for the allocation of food and because of the practical problems encountered when using the classical nutritional survey methods, a Nutritional Score System (N.S.S) was developed. This method was based on the use of social, economic and nutritional indicators and allowed comparison of nutritional status between communities. This paper discusses …
