The multidimensional nD‐GRAS method
We present a multidimensional generalization of the GRAS method (nD-GRAS) for the estimation of multiple matrices in an integrated framework. The potential applications of this method in regional and multi-regional input–output analyses based on national/regional accounts frameworks are many. We provide two real applications, a 3D-GRAS that estimates a use table at basic prices jointly with valuation matrices for Denmark; and a 4D-GRAS for estima…
Institutionalization of Inter‐Country Input‐Output Tables
Effective policy to encourage sustainable production and consumption is needed to shape the future so that our impact stays in line with the earth's carrying capacity. To design and monitor effective policy, good-quality data are indispensable. Consumption-based indicators and footprint estimations will become more robust in the not so distant future when they can be derived from the standardized inter-country tables that will gradually become av…

A two-stage econometric method for the estimation of carbon multipliers with rectangular supply and use tables
The Single Market as an Engine for Employment through External Trade
This article quantifies for the first time the European employment effects of extra‐ EU exports and the correct number of jobs generated through the intra‐ EU trade (single market) associated with the production of such exports. The literature has neglected very often the latter effects mainly due to the lack of an appropriate methodology and data. The main results of the article show that, between 2000 and 2007, an increasing number of E uropean…

Spain's greatest and most recent mine disaster
On 25 April 1998, the mineral waste retaining wall at the Swedish-owned pyrite mine at Aznalcóllar (Seville, Spain) burst,2causing the most harmful environmental and socio-economic disaster in the history of the River Guadiamar basin. The damage was so great that the regional government decided in May 1998 to finance a comprehensive, multidisciplinary research initiative with the objective of eradicating or at least minimising all of the negative…
