Open Access•Kate M Edwards, Laura Siller et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2024

The purpose of this study was to understand the lived experiences of women with histories of victimization and addiction who were recently admitted to a sober living home (SLH). • Examination of the Multilevel Sexual Stigma Model of Intimate Partner Violence Risk Among LGBQ+ College Students: A Prospective Analysis Across Eighteen Institutions of Higher Education

Heather Littleton, Kate M Edwards et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Sex Research•2024•Cited by: 2•References: 9

Sexual stigma operates at multiple levels (institutional, group, individual), which serves to disadvantage sexual minority (LGBQ+) individuals and increases risk for deleterious outcomes. The current study evaluated a novel multilevel sexual stigma model of intimate partner violence (MLSSM-IPV) that incorporates multiple levels of sexual stigma as related to IPV risk via several pathways (e.g. hazardous drinking, affective symptoms). We evaluated…

Women had moderate to high levels of both strengths and challenges. In general, strengths and challenges were inversely related (e.g., higher purpose was r…

Kate M Edwards, Laura Siller et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Trafficking•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 55

Researchers and practitioners have expressed an urgency to identify effective strategies for treating the complex needs of sex trafficking survivors. However, to date, we know very little about what types of services are most effective in promoting recovery among this population. The purpose of this article is to provide an overview of Call to Freedom, a highly promising program based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota (SD) that provides comprehensive,…

  • The Relationship of DNA Evidence to Prosecution Outcomes in Sexual Assault Cases

    Open Access•Theodore P Cro, Laura Siller et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2022•Cited by: 2•References: 1

This study examined the relationship between DNA evidence and outcomes of prosecution of sexual assault. Researchers coded data from prosecutor and crime laboratory files for sexual assault cases referred to prosecutors between 2005 and 2011 in a metropolitan jurisdiction in the northeastern United States. Cases with a DNA match were significantly more likely to move forward and result in conviction, even with other predictor variables statistica…

  • What relates to length of stay in a sober living home among women with histories of victimization and addiction? A longitudinal analysis

    Open Access•Kate M Edwards, Sarah E Ullman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Community Psychology•2022•References: 23

Despite preliminary research suggesting that length of stay in sober living homes (SLHs) is related to sustained sobriety, little research has examined factors that relate to length of stay in SLHs. The purpose of the proposed exploratory study was to prospectively examine baseline characteristics of women with histories of addiction and victimization as correlates of length of stay in a trauma‐informed, gender‐responsive SLH. Participants ( N = …

  • Trauma informed practices of a sober living home for women with addiction and victimization histories

Kate M Edwards, Natira Mullet et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Social Work Practice…•2021

The purpose of the study was to examine the correlates of perceptions of trauma-informed practices at a sober living home (SLH) among women with histories of addiction and victimization. Fifty-two women currently seeking or who had recently sought services at the SLH competed in a survey. Higher rates of financial worries and housing instability predicted lower perceptions that the SLH was trauma-informed in several domains. Being white compared …

Laura Siller, Kate M Edwards et al.•ARTICLE•Cultural Diversity & Ethnic…•2021

    Open Access•Kate M Edwards, Laura Siller et al.•ARTICLE•Violence Against Women•2021•References: 9

Sexual violence (SV) is a pernicious issue that disproportionally impacts girls and women. The purpose of this article is to discuss the Girls Leadership Academy (GLA), a program of the Nebraska's Women's Center for Advancement, which is a "homegro…
