  • The strategic and governance implications of solar radiation modification

Open Access•Todd L Cherry, Steffen Kallbekken et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2024

The lack of progress in addressing climate change has led to increased interest in solar radiation modification (SRM)—a collection of large-scale interventions that cool the planet by managing the amount of solar radiation that reaches the earth. SRM complicates climate change governance because, in addition to advancing collective action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, governance needs to restrain unilateral SRM action while balancing diverg…

  • Climate cooperation in the shadow of solar geoengineering

    Todd L Cherry, Stephan Kroll et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Politics•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 27

As international efforts to mitigate greenhouse gases continue to fall short of global targets, the scientific community increasingly debates the role of solar geoengineering in climate policy. Given the infancy of these technologies, the debate is not yet whether to deploy solar geoengineering but whether solar geoengineering deserves consideration and research funding. Looming large over this discussion is the moral hazard conjecture – normaliz…

  • Ethnic Residential Segregation in the United Kingdom by Age Group

    Open Access•David Mcevoy, David M Mcevoy•ARTICLE•Cosmopolitan Civil Societies An…•2009

There is a long running debate on the significance of ethnic residential segregation levels in Britain. These phenomena have been related to the extent of community cohesion in British cities, and particularly to the riots of 2001 in the north of England. Further light is cast on these issues by examining ethnic segregation by age in the case of Bradford, the location of the largest riot. Both the dissimilarity index and the exposure index are us…

  • Socio-economic and policy dimensions of the mixed embeddedness of ethnic minority business in Britain

    Giles A Barrett, Trevor P Jones et al.•ARTICLE•New Community•2001

Ethnic minority businesses in Britain are examined in relation to the concept of mixed embeddedness. Earlier intellectual approaches emphasising cultural factors, urban and economic contexts, and public policy are identified. Ethnic minority businesses are shown to be typically small, to compete in saturated spatial markets and to be concentrated in economically vulnerable sectors. Moreover their fragile position has been further destabilised by …

  • Ethnic Minority Business

One of the most novel features of recent labour market change in Europe and North America has been the increasing prominence of ethnic minority self-employment. Two decades of radical economic restructuring have brought about a marked shift away from employment in large ® rms to selfemployment in small ones; and, somewhat paradoxically, this trend has been most marked among members of certain migrant groups, often originating in the post-colonial…
