  • Linking Development Interventions to Conservation

    Adrian Martins, Eugene Rutagarama et al.•ARTICLE•Society & Natural Resources•2011•Citada por: 4•Referências: 11

The disappointing performance of integrated conservation and development projects has been partly blamed on the lack of linkage between the development intervention and the expected conservation outcome, resulting in projects that rarely achieve the sought-after “win–win” outcomes. While this study replicates findings about the difficulties of establishing successful linkages, it also seeks to go beyond problem identification, by evaluating respo…

  • Understanding the co-existence of conflict and cooperation

Open Access•Adrian Martins, Adrian Martin et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Peace Research•2011•Citada por: 5•Referências: 40

This article contributes to our understanding of transboundary environmental management regimes through the application of an analytical framework that facilitates an exploration of the co-existence of conflict and cooperation. Rather than framing conflict and cooperation as mutually exclusive states at opposite ends of a spectrum, we seek to understand the ways in which cooperation can exist at the same time as conflict. We apply this framework …

  • Partnerships for protected area conservation in Rwanda

    Open Access•Eugene Rutagarama, Adrian Martins et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•2006•Citada por: 4•Referências: 25

This paper seeks to contribute to Rwanda's ongoing restructuring of protected area management. The early part of the paper draws on experiences elsewhere in Africa, as well as key contexts in Rwanda, to assert that conservation of national parks may best be served by flexible and inclusive partnerships that seek to integrate conservation activities across different agents and scales. This assertion is then explored more critically through empiric…
