Indigenous Archaeology as Political Action
Indigenous peoples, Archaeology, and Political Action (as politics and power) are already intertwined concepts, mutually implicating one another within the history of modern colonialism, a sociohistorical process that included categorizations of the colonial other, hegemonic relations of knowledge, and particular ways of exerting power and developing state-client relations. Indigenous archaeology is therefore already knitted into political relati…

Torture, Truth, Repression and Archaeology
Animism, Relatedness, Life
Both present academic theories and local native peoples' beliefs and practices are the result of complex colonial histories, and sometimes even evolved in curious interactions. Nevertheless, it should be kept in mind that scientific and local native theories are usually on opposite sides of the colonial border. In this article I explore the colonial and decolonizing potential of the 'animistic turn' in archaeology, focusing on my own trajectory o…
This is Not an Answer to the Question “Who is Indigenous?”
Reframing social equality within an intercultural archaeology
In this paper two archaeological cases from the Southern Andean Altiplano (Collau) region of Antofagasta (Catamarca, Argentina, South America) are presented. While both cases could have been presented in opposition to narratives centred on the assertion of complexity and/or social inequality, the reconstruction here attempts to build on an indigenous theory of relatedness. Such theory, avoiding both the division of reality to treat society as sep…
Vida con palas
Are the spades a useful category in the analysis, understanding and narration of their participation in past social life? Through the analysis and discussion of the diverse practical contexts of which the spades were part of, the ways in which these artifacts were categorized and participated actively in the constitution of the subjects, the domestic social groups and the oasis landscape are explored. Whole and fragmented basalt- andesitic spade …
