  • Analysis of potential categories and influencing factors of chronic disease comorbidity patterns among residents of Yantai City based on the health ecology model

Open Access•Yaqing Liu, Qi Cui et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2025

Objective: To explore the latent category characteristics of chronic disease comorbidity among residents in Yantai City, Shandong Province, based on the theoretical framework of the health ecology model, and to identify key factors influencing different comorbidity patterns, thereby providing scientific basis for formulating targeted chronic disease prevention and control strategies. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in Yantai City …

  • The increasing importance of changes in nuptiality

Jolene Tan, Qi Cui et al.•ARTICLE•Chinese Sociological Review•2025

Despite the strong relationship between marriage and childbearing in Asian societies, policies addressing “lowest-low” fertility have often prioritized parity progression within married couples while overlooking a concurrent and increasingly significant trend: the rising prevalence of delayed marriage and nonmarriage. Against this backdrop, we first discuss recent fertility trends and the role of marriage in declining fertility, then review polic…

  • The Impact of Digitalization via Broadband Expansion on Bank Transparency

Open Access•Qi Cui, Tianhong Zhao et al.•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2025

This paper studies the effects of bank digitalization on bank transparency. We propose a novel, time-varying measure of bank digitalization based on variations in broadband access across bank depositors. Our baseline digital measure captures how digital a bank’s customers are using a deposit-weighted access to broadband metric. Analyzing a sample of over 5,800 banks, this paper finds that more digital banks are more transparent. This finding high…

  • Perceptions of the Chinese language’s international image

Open Access•Zhiwan Zhou, Qi Cui et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of African Media Studies•2025

A language’s international image impacts significantly on second language learning motivations. Our study investigates Cameroonian students’ perceptions of the Chinese language’s international image. Africa is the fastest-growing region for Chinese language education, so understanding such perceptions is especially relevant amidst deepening China–Africa cooperation and cultural exchange. Drawing on language image planning theories and the Chinese…

  • Accelerated northward shift of the North Pacific transition zone chlorophyll front under greenhouse warming

Open Access•Yihui Chen, Sheng Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Research Letters•2025

The transition zone chlorophyll front (TZCF) has significant implications for marine ecosystems, fisheries and ocean carbon cycling in the North Pacific. Recent satellite observations show TZCF shifting notably northward at a rate of 1.40 degrees per decade from 1998 to 2022, accompanied by a reduction of the chlorophyll concentration in the TZ. Using CMIP6 models with longer data, we find that this northward shift of TZCF is robust and accelerat…

    Open Access•Qi Cui, D Boertien et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Population /…•2025•References: 17

The discrepancies between desired and actual fertility rates are one of the key topics in fertility studies. This paper aims to explore the fertility gap—the difference between desired fertility size and actual fertility outcomes, and how this gap can be decomposed according to the importance of various perceived barriers to fertility. This article introduces an innovative approach to quantify the impact of removing obstacles that individuals rep…

  • Does green finance drive low-carbon economic development? Evidence from China

Open Access•Qi Cui, Xiaoyu Ma et al.•ARTICLE•Economic Research-Ekonomska…•2023

Green finance is a vital foundation for fundamental economic low-carbon transformation. Therefore, this study examines the effect of green finance on low-carbon economic development by applying various panel estimators including panel threshold model using data set of 30 provincial administrations in China during 2008–2020. The statistical results suggest that green finance significantly stimulates low-carbon economic development based on a carbo…

Open Access•Qi Zhang, Xinxin Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

The COVID-19 pandemic had an unequal impact on the employment and earnings of different labourers, consequently affecting households' per capita income and income inequality. Combining a multisector computable general equilibrium model of China with a micro-simulation approach, this study aims to analyse the unequal effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on China's labour market and income inequality. The results confirm the unequal impact of the pandem…

  • The Effectiveness and Trade-Offs of Renewable Energy Policies in Achieving the Dual Decarbonization Goals in China

Open Access•Wei Wei, Ling He et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

China's government has enforced a series of renewable energy policies to promote renewable energy development and achieve the dual decarbonization goals. However, there exists great disparity in previous studies on the effectiveness and suitability of renewable energy policies in abating carbon emissions. This study employs a dynamic general equilibrium model and assesses the effectiveness and trade-offs of renewable energy policies in achieving …

  • The Cross-sectional Average Inequality in Lifespan (CAL†)

    Open Access•Marília R Nepomuceno, Qi Cui et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•2022•Cited by: 9•References: 61

Lifespan variation is a key metric of mortality that describes both individual uncertainty about the length of life and heterogeneity in population health. We propose a novel and timely lifespan variation measure, which we call the cross-sectional average inequality in lifespan, or CAL†. This new index provides an alternative perspective on the analysis of lifespan inequality by combining the mortality histories of all cohorts present in a cross-…

Purpose: This study aimed to explore the association of occupational stress with fatigue, and to examine the mediating role of psychological capital (PsyCap) on it among Chinese physicians. Materials and methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Liaoning province, China, in 2018. Using a multistage stratified sampling method, 1500 physicians participated totally and 1104 (73.6%) physicians responded effectively. The study used a self-admi…

  • The Mechanism Underlying Change in the Sex Gap in Life Expectancy at Birth

    Open Access•Qi Cui, Vladimir Canudas-Romo et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 23

The relationship between differential mortality rates and differences in life expectancy is well understood, but how changing differential rates translate into changing differences in life expectancy has not been fully explained. To elucidate the mechanism involved, this study extends existing decomposition methods. The extended method decomposes change in the sex gap in life expectancy at birth into three components capturing the effects of the …

  • Assessment of Pre-Service Teachers’ Global-Mindedness

    Open Access•Qi Cui•ARTICLE•SAGE Open•2016

This study assessed pre-service teachers’ levels of global-mindedness and explored the predictors of such attitude using the Global-Mindedness Scale (GMS). The study examined whether individual scale factors such as gender, perceived competence in non-native language or culture, frequency of interaction with people of diverse backgrounds, and teaching experience are good predictors of pre-service teachers’ global-mindedness. The survey was conduc…
