Past, Present, and Future
The Book of Chronicles stands out in the biblical context as it systematically, and at times literally, revisits historical events recounted in other biblical books like Samuel and Kings. This article aims to shed light on the phenomenon of this historical rewriting by employing Jeffrey Alexander’s cultural trauma theory. While Alexander’s theory has found application as a framework for interpreting specific biblical books in recent years, the un…
Priestly and Post-Priestly Voices on Bethel
This article re-examines Gen 28:10–22 through a diachronic analysis informed by its close literary and thematic parallels with Gen 35:9–15. In light of recent developments in Pentateuchal scholarship that question the traditional dating of supposedly pre-Priestly texts, the study adopts a method grounded in detailed textual, linguistic, and literary observation rather than reliance on fixed source-critical models. The analysis argues that Gen 28:…
Genesis 9
Gen 9:1–7 has traditionally been regarded as the Priestly epilogue to the Priestly flood story. In this article, I aim to refute this view and demonstrate that this unit, which incorporates various motifs from Priestly literature as well as from Deuteronomistic (D) and Holiness Code (H) texts, was edited by the Holiness School (HS) during the time of the return to Zion after the exile. Its stated purpose was an all-out struggle against the animal…

This article addresses this issue from a novel angle–through a discussion of the three most wicked kings described in the book of Chronicles, Jehoram, Ahaziah, and Ahaz. It s…
