Witchcraft and deliverance
The place, significance and possibility of demon possession of Christian believers has become especially important as a topic in Pentecostal churches during recent years; this is primarily true among groups which have strong links with African churches which have now passed on their worldviews to believers in other continents. This paper looks at the entire question from an African perspective and from actual practice in that arena which assumes …
The Protestant Church in Congo
This paper examines the Protestant Church in Congo/Zaire during the regime of Mobutu Sese Seko. It reviews its origins as a loose affiliation of denominations during the days of the Belgian colony and the changes which came about under Bokeleale-its driving force and central figure. His goal was to do away with the autonomy of the denominations and create a super Protestant Church in the nation. With the help of government legislation, forced uni…
Burton's Early Years of Ministry and Doctrine under the auspices of the PMU

There are more than a few issues raised from this archival material consisting of more than 70 documents, mostly letters, postcards, and a telegram. This article examines a period of Burton's history …

It attempts to demonstrate the significance of these themes in the present as well as in the future and what they mean to all who are sons – both Jew and Gentile – who have believed in Christ
African Pentecostalism
The diversity of African Pentecostalism, its early colonial and missionary history and its current characteristics are described and analysed. Reference is made to methods of training and forms of leadership, and suggestions are made about the reasons for its growth and persistence
Leadership versus the Congregation in the Pentecostal/Charismatic Movetnent
Leadership of Pentecostal congregations has been subject to little formal theological debate. The attempt to ensure that leadership in Pentecostal congregations follows a biblical pattern has been centred on the ‘ministry gift’ concept and the assumption that such ministers are right for leaders of their congregations. This has resulted in an exaggerated respect for leaders, especially when the concept of ‘anointing’ is used to supplement a minis…
