The relation of defensive style and thematic content to children’s enjoyment and comprehension of joking riddles
Joking riddles of low, moderate, and high aggressive content were administered to 60 normal elementary school boys of average intelligence, categorized into three groups of 20 based on their characteristic defensive styles (constricted, flexible, and impulsive) of dealing with aggressive impulses. Homonymic joking riddles representing two types of theme (neutral and aggressive) and two types of incongruity structure (logical and illogical) were administered to 90 elementary school boys evincing low, moderate, or high levels of behavioral aggression. Imaginary figures of early childhood
The developmental progression of children's belief in three major figures of early childhood was examined through structure interviews with children and questionnaires for parents. Belief in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy varied with the child's age and the level of parental encouragement of belief. However, belief in these figures was unrelated to other indices of the child's fantasy involvement
