  • The relationship between intelligence, personality and inspection time

Open Access•Con Stough, J Bartlet Brebner et al.•ARTICLE•British Journal of Psychology•1996

This study investigates the relationship between intelligence test performance, a test of visual inspection time (IT) and personality and temperament dimensions. Howe's (1990) hypothesis that IT and IQ are empirically related because of personality or temperament variables is evaluated and rejected. IT and performance IQ (PIQ) were significantly related independent of personality or temperament variables. IT and verbal IQ (VIQ) were unrelated. Ro…

  • The Effects of Cigarette Smoking on Verbal Learning and Retention

    G L Mangan•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1983

The effects of smoking a low (.7 mg) and a middle (1.3 mg) nicotine yield cigarette on paired-associate learning and retention under conditions of high and low intralist interference, and on serial learning and retention, were examined in groups of male undergraduate smokers (N = 24). The interaction between nicotine level and task difficulty in paired-associate learning was marginally significant. The 1.3-mg nicotine dose impeded learning under …

  • The effects of Cigarette Smoking on Vigilance Performance

    G L Mangan•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1982

Each of 24 Ss completed an auditory vigilance task after smoking either a "low" nicotine cigarette (12 Ss) or a "middle" nicotine cigarette (12 Ss) and served as his own control in an identical session one week before or after the test session. The smoking was followed by improved vigilance in both groups as compared with the control performance. The improvement came about in different ways for the two groups. The low nicotine group recorded impr…

  • The Relationship of Mobility of Inhibition to Rate of Inhibitory Growth and Measures of Flexibility, Extraversion, and Neuroticism

    G L Mangan•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1978•Cited by: 1

Measures of mobility of inhibition, and of internal, reactive and transmarginal inhibition, and inhibitory strength, which are claimed to index independent nervous system properties and personality dimensions, were obtained from a sample of 30 male undergraduates, and correlated with measures of sensorimotor, perceptual, and thinking flexibility, extraversion, and neuroticism. Results of a principal components analysis indicated that thinking fle…

  • Attention and Perceptual Learning

    Ngaire V Adcock, G L Mangan•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•1970

(1970). Attention and Perceptual Learning. The Journal of General Psychology: Vol. 83, No. 2, pp. 247-254

  • Conformity to group pressure in relation to the value of the task material

    Graham M Vaughan, G L Mangan•ARTICLE•Journal of Abnormal & Social…•1963

  • Taylor MAS and group conformity pressure

    G L Mangan, David Quartermain et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Abnormal & Social…•1960

  • A Factorial Study of Speed, Power and Related Temperament Variables

    Open Access•G L Mangan•ARTICLE•British Journal of Educational…•1959

S ummary . The fields of power, speed, persistence, accuracy and carefulness were investigated by factorizing thirty‐eight sets of test scores among 200 13 and 14‐year‐old Ss. Rotation yielded five clearly identifiable and two less definite factors—content factors g+v and N, speed factors P, verbal tempo and fluency, and temperament factors persistence and speed‐accuracy. Persistence and speed‐accuracy were identified as work‐attitude or method‐o…
