On the eastern side of the Isthmus of Ierapetra (Crete), just to the north of the village of Monastiraki, and immediately to the south of the mouth of the Ha Gorge, is situated the Late Minoan IIIC (LM IIIC) settlement of Monastiraki – Halasmenos (Tsipopoulou 2011a, 323). Prastio
Between 1992 and 1995 the Western Cyprus Project excavated at a suspected Middle Chalcolithic period settlement site at Prastio-"Agios Savvas tis Karonis Monastery" in the Pafos District of Cyprus. The final phase of the fieldwork in 1994-1995 is summarized and interpreted here. Evidence suggests that rather than a single undisturbed settlement, there once were two prehistoric settlements which were destroyed in the 16th and 17th centuries C. E. …

Constructing the Cypriot Iron Age
The Iron Age of Cyprus, while treated in various degrees at various international conferences over the past 30 years, seldom has been the focus of them. The session on Iron Age kingdoms at the 1995 Archaeological Institute of America meeting in San Diego represented one of the few gatherings devoted exclusively to the island's Iron Age remains. The meeting allowed one to review the present praxis of research concern with sites that date primarily…

Aspects of Social Complexity in Cyprus
Early Prehistoric and Bronze Age archaeology on Cyprus is at a watershed. The goals and methodologies of new archaeology and post-processual archaeology are only now beginning to have an impact on how and why archaeological research is implemented on the island. At the 1992 annual meeting of the American Schools of Oriental Research, in San Francisco, a consultation was held to begin to address some of the challenges presented by the arrival of t…

The 'Royal Tombs' at Salamis (Cyprus)
The rich burial assemblages ('Royal Tombs') excavated in a cemetery to the west of the ancient burial city of Salamis on the eastern coast of Cyprus have attracted widespread notice. Standard interpretations of these Iron Age burials characterize them simple as ostentatious displays by a few petty kings of Salamis with a mixture of Near Eastern and 'Homeric' styles and formats. The focus of this article is a re-examination of these burial assembl…

Canadian Palaipaphos (Cyprus) Survey Project
During the second field season (1980) of the Canadian Palaipaphos Survey Project in the Paphos District of SW Cyprus, an archaeological survey was continued within the assumed boundaries of the Iron Age kingdom of Paphos. The survey, based on a stratified random sampling strategy, was confined to the Ezousas and Xeros river drainages, and resulted in the discovery of 102 sites ranging from Aceramic Neolithic to recent times. The Ezousas drainage …
