L’articolo indaga la ricezione del mondo etrusco da parte di Virgilio come appare documentata dal suo grande poema. Nelle pagine iniziali si osserva che, mentre le vite del poeta danno relativamente scarso peso alla sua pretesa Etrusca origo, il ruolo assegnato nell’Eneide agli Etruschi è assai rilevante. Earlier excavations had established the existence of a sanctuary on this site, but the identity of the divinity worshipped and the architectural and cultic history remained unknown.
