  • Virtual reconstruction and geometric morphometric analysis of the Kocabaş fossil hominin from Turkey and implications for taxonomy and evolutionary significance

Open Access•Amélie Vialet, Sandrine Prat et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Human Evolution•2025•References: 12

  • Contouring the Cataclysm

    Constantin Athanassas, C D Athanassas et al.•ARTICLE•Environmental Archaeology•2017•References: 14

This study is a step forward in understanding the palaeoenvironmental effects of the Minoan eruption of Santorini (1627–1600 BCE). We employ geostatistics to produce a prediction map for the thickness of the tephra fallout over the Eastern Mediterranean, and we reconstruct the effects by comparisons with recent eruption analogues. Based on the geostatistical map, the amount of environmental disruption over so far undocumented areas is estimated b…

  • Vegetation and climate changes during the late Pliocene and early Pleistocene in SW Anatolia, Turkey

    Open Access•Gonzalo Jiménez‐moreno, Gonzalo Jiménez-Moreno et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2015

Pollen analysis was done on lacustrine sedimentary sequences dated by micromammals as late Pliocene–early Pleistocene that outcrop in two Neogene graben basins from SW Turkey. This study shows vegetation changes from steppe-like to more forested environments, very similar to the cyclic oscillations related to late Pleistocene glacial–interglacial climate changes. Artemisia was abundant during cold–arid periods, indicating that this species was al…

  • Abrupt transition from wet Pliocene into dry Pleistocene proved by faunal and isotopic composition of the palustrine carbonates and pedogenic calcretes in the Çal-Karahallı basin of SW Anatolia

    Open Access•Mehmet Cihat Alçiçek•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2012

  • First Homo erectus from Turkey and implications for migrations into temperate Eurasia

Open Access•J Kappelman, Mehmet Cihat Alçiçek et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•2008•Cited by: 27•References: 57

Remains of fossil hominins from temperate regions of the Old World are rare across both time and space, but such specimens are necessary for understanding basic issues in human evolution including linkages between their adaptations and early migration patterns. We report here the remarkable circumstances surrounding the discovery of the first fossil hominin calvaria from Turkey. The specimen was found in the Denizli province of western Turkey and…
