    The polity of Hueda is well known for its rapid appearance on the world stage in the mid-seventeenth century and its spectacular collapse in 1727. Given its central role as a point of trade for captives bound for the Americas, the historiography of the Atlantic world records various glosses of 'Hueda' as ethnonyms for both the Gbe-speaking captives embarking from the coast, as well as those living within the political bounds of the polity.
