The results of an exploratory five-nation survey of 2,239 adults interviewed on the telephone indicate general satisfaction with the health care system and less satisfaction with common welfare. Social Stratification and Self-Management of Health
Data from the 1984 Illinois Comparative Health Survey are used to examine whether the poor have adopted a consumer orientation toward professional health services in view of the reduction of financial barriers and clear signs of increased physician utilization. It was found, however, that lower-status persons stand as more or less passive recipients of such services, with a significantly greater tendency to invest responsibility for their own phy…

Family Organization, Interaction and Ritual: A Cross-Cultural Study in Bulgaria, Finland, Germany and Ireland
The role of family rituals in maintaining kin relationships is examined in four sodieies which vary in their degree of modernity. Preliminary results show a slightly higher frequency of ritual interaction and visits with kin, particularly over Christmas, in the more modern societies. This appears to contradict Durkheim's law of contraction but further analysis of the data is needed before firm conclusion can be drawn
