Encore s’a…
Forest management in Bolivia under Evo Morales: The challenges of post-neoliberalism
The Border as a Marker of Territoriality: Multi-Scalar Perspectives and Multi-Agent Processes in a South American Borderland Region
The ambivalence of borders, as both bridges and barriers, is analysed in the South American borderlands, in the cross-border region between Bolivia, Peru and Brazil. The main hypothesis behind this work is that borders not only refer to the state but they are also a result of a social construction. Through their practices and narratives, the actors involved shape the border configuration. Through a multi-scalar approach (from a continental to a l…
The Front and the Line: The Paradox of South American Frontiers Applied to the Bolivian Case
Dialectics between pioneer fronts and legal frontiers are not specific to South America. However, the coexistence of these two realities appears to be more problematic in this continent than elsewhere. In this article, the continent's double geopolitical heritage (a result of its ‘discovery’) is analysed in order to explain the permanent state of tensions between these fronts and frontiers; these tensions help to decipher the ongoing territorial …
