  • Heidegger on Machination, the Jewish Race, and the Holocaust

    Johannes Fritsche•ARTICLE•Critical Horizons•2018•Cited by: 2•References: 5

In the Black Notebooks, Heidegger ascribes in 1938/9 to the Jewish race an “empty rationality and calculative ability,” in his view the cause of its “worldlessness.” To assess this characterisation, I present Heidegger’s theories of history as a decline in Being and Time and in his later history of Being. For this purpose, I discuss his notions of Rechnen (reckoning), Machenschaft (machination), and Geviert (fourfold), several existentialia from …

  • Absence of Soil, Historicity, and Goethe in Heidegger's Being and Time

    Johannes Fritsche•ARTICLE•Philosophy Today•2016

In summer issue of 2015, Philosophy Today published a paper by Thomas Sheehan entitled Emmanuel Faye: The Introduction of Fraud into Philosophy? (EF), in which Sheehan rebukes, in extraordinarily strong terms, Faye's book on Heidegger's introduction of Nazism into philosophy, Heidegger: The Introduction of Nazism into Philosophy in Light of Unpublished Seminars of 1933-1935 (HI).1 In this paper, I shall address longest part of Sheehan's paper, na…

  • The biological precedents for medieval impetus theory and its Aristotelian character

    Open Access•Johannes Fritsche•ARTICLE•The British Journal for the…•2011•References: 1

While the impetus theory is often regarded as a non-Aristotelian theory that could not have emerged within the development of Aristotelianism, I argue that it is essentially Aristotelian. Given the state of the theories of body, movement and sexual reproduction and the development of the theory of the four elements in the Latin West at the end of the thirteenth century, the impetus theory was probably developed as an application to projectiles of…

  • The Seduction of Unreason

    Open Access•Johannes Fritsche•ARTICLE•Constellations•2007

  • Aristotle on Χẃρα in Plato’s Timaeus (Physics IV

    Johannes Fritsche•ARTICLE•Archiv für Begriffsgeschichte•2006

Aristotle’s interpretation of χẃρα (= matter and space) has most often been regarded as an excellent example of his supposed inability to read otherphilosophers other than through the lenses of his own technical vocabulary and its implications. However, his reasoning is independent of his own take on theissue of prime matter, his claim is right, and it amounts to the thesis that χẃρα is neither matter nor space. It is shown how 209 b 6–17 is loca…

  • The Unity of Time in Aristotle

    Johannes Fritsche•ARTICLE•Graduate Faculty Philosophy Journal•1994
