  • Two Late New Kingdom or Early Third Intermediate Period Hieratic Graffiti in the Temple of Khonsu at Karnak

    This article examines two hieratic graffiti found in the Temple of Khonsu at Karnak during the ARCE Conservation Project. The texts probably date to the end of the Twentieth Dynasty up to the beginning of the Twenty-first Dynasty. A translation with commentary is supplemented by photographs and digital facsimiles of the individual texts

    The Nile Mosaic of Palestrina, ancient Praeneste in central Italy, dating to about 100BC, is one of the earliest large mosaics which have been preserved from the classical world. Interpretation of the mosaic is disputed, suggestions ranging from the exotic decoration to a topographical picture or a religious allegory.     In the Medinet Habu inscription of Year 11 on the Second Libyan War a problematic word kms occurs. The author discusses previous explanations of this term and suggests that kms is merely an ancient scribal error for the well known word gns, ‘violence’
