Open Access•T Bernadette Picbougoum, M A Serge Somda et al.•ARTICLE•PLOS Global Public Health•2025

The prevalences of undernutrition in children under five years of age appeared to decrease over the last decade in Burkina Faso. • Men Who Have Sex with Both Men and Women in West Africa

Open Access•Marion Fiorentino, Bakary Coulibaly et al.•ARTICLE•Archives of Sexual Behavior•2024

HIV is highly prevalent in men who have sex with men (MSM) in West Africa. Many MSM in the region also have sex with women (MSMW). Accordingly, they are a potential bridge subpopulation for HIV transmission to women. We aimed to evaluate the proportions and characteristics of West African MSMW at high behavioral risk of acquiring HIV from male partners and transmitting it to female partners (HBRMF). The cohort ANRS-12324 CohMSM Study included 630…

Open Access•Smaila Alidou, Lucien Désiré Dahourou et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2023

Background: The unmet need for modern contraceptives among sexually active adolescent and young women (AYW) in Africa contributes to high morbidity and mortality. To investigate the prevalence of unmet need for modern contraceptives and its associated factors among AYW in Togo, we performed a secondary analysis of data from the MICS-62017 survey. Method: We extracted data from sexually active AYW aged 15-24 years for the analysis and used multi-l…

Malnutrition in children is a serious health problem, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa, with heavy socioeconomic burdens. The prevalence of stunting remains high in Burkina Faso. We aimed to assess the nutritional status of children aged under five years and the associated factors of undernutrition in Burkina Faso. We conducted a …

  • Longitudinal Follow-Up of Blood Telomere Length in HIV-Exposed Uninfected Children Having Received One Year of Lopinavir/Ritonavir or Lamivudine as Prophylaxis

Open Access•Audrey Monnin, Amélie Vizeneux et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2021

Telomere shortening can be enhanced upon human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and by antiretroviral (ARV) exposures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the acute and long-term effect on telomere shortening of two ARV prophylaxes, lopinavir/ritonavir (LPV/r) and lamivudine (3TC), administered to children who are HIV-exposed uninfected (CHEU) to prevent HIV acquisition through breastfeeding during the first year of life, and to investiga…

  • Time and risk factors for death among smear-positive pulmonary tuberculosis patients in the Health District of commune VI of Bamako, Mali, 2016

Open Access•Yaya Ballayira, Pauline Kiswendsida Yanogo et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

The median time to death was 2 months from the start of treatment. Independent risk factors for death were age ≥ 45 years, weight < 40 kg, unknown and positive HIV status. We recommend close monitoring of patients over 45 years, HIV testing in those with unknown status, an adequate care for positive HIV status, as well as a nutritional support for those with weight below 40 kg during the intensive phase of TB treatment

VCT was still very low among HCWs in Burkina Faso, while HRB was high. These findings suggest that 'HCW-friendly' VCT centres should be implemented, securing confidentiality among colleagues. In addition, refreshment courses on HIV risk reduction, counselling and testing are certainly required during the professional career of HCWs

A qualitative study was conducted on 17 formula-feeding and 19 breastfeeding mothers, from a larger cohort of 51 eligible…
