Forecasting change in conflict fatalities with dynamic elastic net
This article illustrates an approach to forecasting change in conflict fatalities designed to address the complexity of the drivers and processes of armed conflicts. The design of this approach is based on two main choices. First, to account for the specificity of conflict drivers and processes over time and space, we model conflicts in each individual country separately. Second, we draw on an adaptive model—Dynamic Elastic Net, DynENet—which is …

Mediterranean Security Revisited
At the dawn of the last century, the European and Mediterranean countries failed to reach a consensus on building a cooperative security system. This article is an attempt at revisiting the concept of the Mediterranean security system and assessing the conditions for restarting security dialogue in the region. Upon recognition of the need for taking into account the new dimension of risks along with the traditional dimension of threats, the artic…
The Building of Regional Security Partnership and the Security-Culture Divide in the Mediterranean Region
Fulvio Attinà examines the concept of "regional security partnership" both theoretically and in the context of Euro-Mediterranean region-building. He argues that this partnership is an intermediate venture on the road to the possible appearance of a Euro-Mediterranean security community. By discussing the difficulties of negotiating a security partnership in the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, Attinà highlights the security cultu…

Organisation, competition and change of the international system
General theories of international politics underline inequality and order as its major features and overlook the factors favouring change in the international system. Recalling that equal sovereignty is not a secondary feature of the state system, the Author formulates a model based on the concepts of system organisation and political competition for interpreting both structure and change in the international system. Applied to the analysis of co…
The voting behaviour of the European Parliament members and the problem of the Europarties
The members of the European Parliament are elected in nationally organized and domestically oriented polls; however, in the Strasbourg Assembly they form transnational Party Groups or Europarties. The Rules of Procedure require such formations for the functioning of the Assembly, but Party Groups are much more than procedure requisites. They assemble elected representatives of national parties which share a consistent similarity in political ideo…
Italian Approaches to International Political Analysis
Interpretazioni E Ipotesi Sul Sistema Dei Partiti Del Parlamento Europeo
