A cross-cultural adaptation and content validity assessment of the Czech Version Kiddy-KINDL Questionnaire
BACKGROUND: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is an important outcome in paediatric research, yet no validated Czech-language instrument exists for preschool children aged 4-6 years. The Kiddy-KINDL questionnaire, covering six HRQoL dimensions in both child self-report and parent proxy-report formats, is a leading candidate for adaptation given its brevity, dual-report design, and cross-cultural breadth. OBJECTIVES: To culturally adapt the K…
Physical activity and mental health in children and adolescents during and after the Covid-19 pandemic
Background The COVID-19 pandemic coincided with declines in youth mental health and health-related quality of life. Physical activity (PA) has been identified as a modifiable factor associated with better mental health outcomes, yet longitudinal evidence jointly examining well-being and mental health problems remains limited. Methods Data stem from six waves of the German COPSY cohort of 11- to 21-year-olds ( N = 1,819) surveyed during and after …

Tracing socioeconomic inequalities in children’s and adolescent’s mental health
Socioeconomic inequalities in the mental health of children and adolescents remain evident in times of global crisis. Over the course of the pandemic, these mental health inequalities have not increased and even equalized, but post-pandemic recovery effects are only visible for young people in higher socioeconomic status. However, there is still an ongoing need for targeted health promotion and prevention that strengthens personal and social reso…
Supporting youths in global crises
Introduction: The number of global crises increased in recent years, significantly affecting the health and well-being of children and adolescents worldwide. Awareness of these global crises and their impact on health and well-being has risen since the COVID-19 pandemic. Research indicates that some children and adolescents are more vulnerable to the challenges resulting from these crises than others. This study examines the risk and resources fa…

Evolution of Youth’s Mental Health and Quality of Life during the Covid-19 Pandemic in South Tyrol, Italy
The characteristics of the 2021 pandemic, including lockdowns and home schooling, may have contributed to the differences between the two surveys. As most pandemic restrictions ended in 2022, the results confirm the need for measures to improve the mental and physical health of children and adolescents after the pandemic
Eating disorder symptoms among children and adolescents in Germany before and after the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic
The pandemic underscores the importance of further research, but also prevention and intervention programs that address disordered eating in children and adolescents, with a focus on age - and gender-specific differences and developments. In addition, screening instruments for eating disorder symptoms in youths need to be adapted and validated

Socioeconomic Status, Protective Factors, and Mental Health Problems in Transition from Adolescence to Emerging Adulthood
Lower familial socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with more mental health problems in adolescence. The aim of this study was to identify factors that may protect adolescents from families with lower SES from developing mental health problems in emerging adulthood. Data of the population-based longitudinal BELLA study included n = 426 participants aged 13 to 17 years at t0 (2009-2012) and 18 to 24 years at t1 (2014-2017). Hierarchical multip…

Pathways of Parental Education on Children's and Adolescent's Body Mass Index
Aim: The increasing body mass index (BMI) often followed by overweight and obesity is a global health problem of the 21st century. Children and adolescents with lower socioeconomic status are more affected than their counterparts. The mechanisms behind these differences must be well understood to develop effective prevention strategies. This analysis aims at examining the association of parental education as an indicator of the socioeconomic stat…

Risks and Resources for Depressive Symptoms and Anxiety in Children and Adolescents During the Covid-19 Pandemic – Results of the Longitudinal Copsy Study
The findings provide evidence of risk factors for depressive symptoms and anxiety during the COVID-19 pandemic. Children and adolescents who face risk factors need to be identified early and monitored during the pandemic. Family-based intervention programs are needed to help vulnerable children and adolescents cope with the challenges of the pandemic
Quality of Life and Mental Health in Children and Adolescents after the First Year of the Covid-19 Pandemic

Health-related quality of life in transgender adolescents
Background: Transgender adolescents who apply for treatment often experience a marked increase in body-related distress when entering puberty, accompanied by internalizing problems and poor peer relations. Although adolescence is a time of considerable psychosocial and physical change, generally associated with a decline in health-related quality of life (HRQoL), research on HRQoL in transgender youth and possible predictors is sparse. This study…

Effects of phone versus mail survey methods on the measurement of health-related quality of life and emotional and behavioural problems in adolescents
The observed differences between phone and mail surveys are small but should be regarded as relevant in certain settings. Therefore, while both methods are valid, some changes are necessary. The weaker reliability and MTMM validity associated with phone methods necessitates improved phone adaptations of paper and pencil questionnaires. The effects of phone versus mail survey modes are partly different across constructs/measures

Quality of life of children with mitral valve prolapse
In children with MVP, the lower self-assessment is observed mainly in evaluation of their health and own physical activity. The remaining studied dimensions of HRQOL are comparable with the healthy children. However, within the population of children suffering from MVP, the frequency of clinical symptoms impact upon the different HRQOL dimensions. Thus, MVP represents a heterogeneous population. Whether there are impairments of HRQOL largely depe…

Reliability, construct and criterion validity of the KIDSCREEN-10 score
Our results indicate that the KIDSCREEN-10 provides a valid measure of a general HRQoL factor in children and adolescents, but the instrument does not represent well most of the single dimensions of the original KIDSCREEN-52. Test-retest reliability was slightly below a priori defined thresholds
