Reflection on Gene Editing from the Perspective of Biopolitics
The study examines the creation of gene-edited infants from the perspective of biopolitics. Through an analysis at the level of “body-power”, we show that the infants are a product of an advanced stage of biopolitics. On the other hand, considering the level of “space-power”, we indicate that the mechanism of space deepens the governance of population through biopower, leading to real conflicts between past and future in the present. The infants …
Large language models surpass human experts in predicting neuroscience results
Scientific discoveries often hinge on synthesizing decades of research, a task that potentially outstrips human information processing capacities. Large language models (LLMs) offer a solution. LLMs trained on the vast scientific literature could potentially integrate noisy yet interrelated findings to forecast novel results better than human experts. Here, to evaluate this possibility, we created BrainBench, a forward-looking benchmark for predi…
Effects of Inorganic Passivators on Gas Production and Heavy Metal Passivation Performance during Anaerobic Digestion of Pig Manure and Corn Straw
The treatment of livestock manure caused by the expansion of the breeding industry in China has attracted wide attention. Heavy metals in pig manure can pollute soil and water and even transfer to crops, posing harm to humans through the food chain. In this study, corn straw was selected as the additive and introduced into the anaerobic digestion. Sepiolite (SE), ferric oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ), attapulgite (AT) and ferric sulfate (FeSO 4 ) were used as…
Maar- and crater lakes of the Long Gang Volcanic Field (N.E. China)—overview, laminated sediments, and vegetation history of the last 900 years
