  • Firm-level aggregate corruption and competition

    Open Access•Ficawoyi Donou‐adonsou, Gyan Pradhan et al.•ARTICLE•Review of Policy Research•2022•References: 24

This study examines the relationship between competition and corruption in the presence of enhanced telecommunications infrastructure. We use firm-level aggregate data provided by the World Bank Enterprise Surveys and collected between 2006 and 2018. Our fixed-effects results are two-fold. First, the number of competing firms increases corruption in developing countries. This result is consistent with the previous literature on the competition-co…

  • Determinants of sustainable development

    Open Access•Bishwa Koirala, Gyan Pradhan•ARTICLE•Sustainable Development•2019•Cited by: 11•References: 4

This study examines the factors that determine sustainable development, measured by adjusted net saving, using panel data for 12 Asian countries for the 1990–2014 period. A panel data model is estimated using both random‐effect and fixed‐effect approaches. The Hausman test points to the superiority of the random‐effect model over the fixed‐effect model, which is apparent when the results of the two estimations are compared. The results of the ran…

  • Nepal’s Civil War and Its Economic Costs

    Open Access•Gyan Pradhan•ARTICLE•Journal of International and…•2009•References: 5

This paper estimates the macroeconomic effects of increased spending on defense and internal security necessitated by the decade-long Maoist insurgency in Nepal. An investment equation is specified to examine the relationship between defense spending and investment. The estimation results indicate that there is a significant negative effect of defense spending on investment. A simple Harrod-Domar growth relationship is used to estimate the effect…

  • Economic cost of Sri Lanka's ethnic conflict

    Gyan Pradhan•ARTICLE•Journal of Contemporary Asia•2001•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Despite its low income per capita, Sri Lanka has achieved remarkable success in human development, largely due to appropriate government policies on health and education. However, Sri Lanka's economic performance has been below its potential, and the unresolved civil conflict poses one of the greatest obstacles to its long terms growth prospects. This article examines some indirect costs of Sri Lanka's civil war. It argues that the conflict has r…
