  • Introducing psychology as an academic discipline in France

Open Access•Serge Nicolas, Agnès Charvillat•ARTICLE•Journal of the History of the…•2001•Cited by: 5•References: 16

This paper describes the context in which the teaching of psychology as an autonomous discipline was introduced in France, and reproduces the first psychology lecture given in France by Théodule Ribot on 9 April 1888 at The Collège de France. In France, this recognition was delayed because of the negative influence of spiritualist philosophy. • The status of ‘canonical SVO sentences’ in French

Open Access•Agnès Charvillat, Michèle Kail•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Language•1991

This on-line study investigates the processing of word order by 30 French children (6;6, 8;6, 10;6) and 10 adults. Using a word monitoring task, we showed that word order (NVN vs NNV): (1) is a significant factor in sentences containing no clitic pronoun; (2) s…

  • Local and topological processing in sentence comprehension by French and Spanish children

Open Access•Michèle Kail, Agnès Charvillat•ARTICLE•Journal of Child Language•1988

This cross-linguistic study investigates the relative importance of validity in terms of the strengths of syntactic cues and cue processing cost in sentence comprehension by French and Spanish children (4; 6–6; 6). The notion of cue cost refers to the distinction between local and topological processing types. Choices of the agent (cue strength) and latencies (cue cost) were collected through the acting out of sentences containing different synta…
