  • The Theory of Social Representation

Open Access•Grégory Lo Monaco, Paul Rateau•ARTICLE•Journal for the Theory of Social…•2025•References: 2

This article begins with a summary of the four major theoretical and methodological models of social representations—the sociogenetic, structural, sociodynamic and dialogical models—and then explores new and original approaches to integrating these frameworks. The aim is to move beyond the mere accumulation or juxtaposition usually used in presenting these models and to propose methods for imbricating and interweaving them from three perspectives…

  • Leibniz and the Proof of God's Existence from Eternal Truths

    Open Access•Paul Rateau•ARTICLE•Religions•2025•References: 11

The aim of this article is to show how and in what stages G. W. Leibniz came to develop his proof of God's existence from eternal truths. It begins by tracing the main stages in the history of this proof, initially forged by Augustine of Hippo, and discusses the reasons for its renewal in the last quarter of the 17th century in the post-Cartesian context. The article then shows why, despite skepticism towards this proof in his youth, Leibniz fina…

  • You’re heartless, I’m less

Bastien Trémolière, Paul Rateau•ARTICLE•The Journal of General Psychology•2023•References: 5

Are moral judgments to sacrificial dilemmas shaped by a latent social norm? The present research addresses this issue. We report a set of six studies (plus a supplementary one) which question the existence of a social norm in the longstanding deontism/utilitarian debate by relying on two original tools, namely substitution technique and self-presentation paradigm. Study 1 showed that American participants asked to answer like most Americans would…

  • Social representations of the coronavirus and causal perception of its origin

    Open Access•Paul Rateau, Jean‐louis Tavani et al.•ARTICLE•Health An Interdisciplinary…•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 44

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic (between 26 March and 2 April 2020), we analysed ( n = 1144) the social representations of the coronavirus and the differentiated perceptions according to the origins attributed to the appearance of the virus (Human vs Non-Human and Intentional vs Unintentional) in a French population. The results show that the social representation is organized around five potentially central descriptive, anxiety-provoking a…

Open Access•Jean‐louis Tavani, Sylvain Delouvée et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Social…•2022

Based on a taxonomy of collective fears, the objective of the study ( N = 1,144) was to analyse how the original reasons attributed to an object of fear play a role in collective angst and to study how these attributions are linked to differentiated social representations of the object. The results show that the underlying reasons (human vs. non-human; intentional vs. unintentional) organize the socio-representational field of the coronavirus. Mo…

  • Evaluation of Knowledge and Risk Perception about Antibiotic Resistance in Biology and Mathematics Young Students in Nîmes University in France

Open Access•Valentin Duvauchelle, Elsa Causse et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2021

In response to the antimicrobial resistance issue, the World Health Organization developed and conducted a survey in 2015 dealing with habits, antibiotic use, awareness of appropriate use and sensitization to the issue of antibacterial resistance. In France, we conducted a similar survey to investigate the use of antibiotics and students' perceptions of the antibiotic resistance risk. Our results indicated that antibiotics are moderately taken (4…

  • Démontrer Dieu

    Paul Rateau•ARTICLE•Archives de Philosophie•2021•Cited by: 1

  • The Problem of Evil and the Justice of God

Paul Rateau, Maria Rosa Antognazza•CHAPTER•The Oxford Handbook of Leibniz•2018

This chapter questions two common interpretations of Leibniz's theodicy. The first interpretation maintains that, all considered, most of the arguments Leibniz uses are traditional. The second interpretation maintains that Leibniz's conception of evil and his justification of God are roughly fixed since the Confessio Philosophi (1672-3). The chapter argues that Leibniz regards injustice as the real evil. It also examines significant revisions in …

  • Methods for Studying the Structure of Social Representations

Open Access•Grégory Lo Monaco, Anthony Piermattéo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal for the Theory of Social…•2017

This article deals with the methodologies commonly used in the framework of the structural approach to social representations. It concerns free and hierarchical evocations, the characterization questionnaire, the similarity analysis, the basic cognitive schemes model, the attribute‐challenge technique and the test of context independence. More than a simple review of these methodologies, it offers a critical approach concerning the problems encou…

  • Tell me what you remember and I will know who you are

    Open Access•Jean‐louis Tavani, Jean Louis Tavani et al.•ARTICLE•Group Processes & Intergroup…•2015•Cited by: 2•References: 7

The present article aims to show that collective memories could serve as a criterion in social categorization. We predicted that a target person who shares common collective memories will be perceived as similar (to the self), relatively more favorably and categorized as an ingroup member. We conducted four studies using memories of historical events or childhood objects. These studies consistently showed that a target who shares common memories …

  • Social representation and social identity in the black sheep effect

Open Access•Bouchra Zouhri, Paul Rateau et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2015•Cited by: 3•References: 20

This study tests a new integration of central core theory with subjective group dynamics theory. Specifically, we hypothesized that the type of opinions shared within a group (central vs. peripheral; i.e. central core theory) can moderate the typical processes of the black sheep effect (i.e. subjective group dynamics theory). Our study focused on students expressing opinions with regard to their social representation of studying . We predicted th…

  • Lire Leibniz aujourd'hui
