  • A quantum mechanical analysis of time and motion in relativity theory

Open Access•Diederik Aerts, Massimiliano Sassoli de Bianchi•ARTICLE•THEORIA An International Journal…•2024

An operational approach to quantum mechanics has been developed in the past decades in our group in Brussels. A similar approach is taken in this work, making use of the extra operational depth offered by this approach, to show that the construction of spacetime is specific to each observer. What is usually referred to as the block universe then emerges by noting that parts of the past and future are also contained in the present, but without the…

  • La mecánica cuántica y la conceptualidad

    Open Access•Diederik Aerts•ARTICLE•Scientiae Studia•2013•Cited by: 1

  • Toward an Ecological Theory of Concepts

Liane Gabora, Eleanor Rosch et al.•ARTICLE•Ecological Psychology•2008

Psychology has had difficulty accounting for the creative, context-sensitive manner in which concepts are used. We believe this stems from the view of concepts as identifiers rather than bridges between mind and world that participate in the generation of meaning. This article summarizes the history and current status of concepts research and provides a nontechnical summary of work toward an ecological approach to concepts. We outline the rationa…

  • Evolution as context-driven actualisation of potential

    Liane Gabora, Diederik Aerts•ARTICLE•Interdisciplinary Science Reviews•2005•Cited by: 2•References: 4

It is increasingly evident that there is more to biological evolution than natural selection; moreover, the concept of evolution is not limited to biology. We propose an integrative framework for characterizing how entities evolve, in which evolution is viewed as a process of context-driven actualization of potential (CAP). Processes of change differ according to the degree of nondeterminism, and the degree to which they are sensitive to, interna…

  • Einstein Meets Magritte

    Diederik Aerts•BOOK•Einstein Meets Magritte: An…•1999

Einstein Meets Magritte: An Interdisciplinary Reflection presents insights of the renowned key speakers of the interdisciplinary Einstein meets Magritte conference (1995, Brussels Free University). The contributions elaborate on fundamental questions of science, with regard to the contemporary world, and push beyond the borders of traditional approaches. All of the articles in this volume address this fundamental theme, but somewhere along the ro…
