  • Effects of Exogenous and Endogenous Distracters on Immediate and Long‐Term Recall in Toddlers

    Open Access•Wallace E Dixon, Hannah G Lawman et al.•ARTICLE•Infancy•2012

We explored the role that exogenous and endogenous competitors for attention play in infants’ abilities to encode and retain information over a 6‐month period. Sixty‐six children visited the laboratory at 15 months, and 32 returned for a second visit at 21 months. Children observed models of conventional‐ relation and enabling‐relation action sequences. Half the children were distracted by a “Mister Monkey” mechanical toy during the conventional‐…

  • Joint Effects of Child Temperament and Maternal Sensitivity on the Development of Childhood Obesity

Open Access•Tiejian Wu, Wallace E Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•Maternal and Child Health Journal•2010

  • Psychological Sex Type and Preferences for Musical Instruments in Fourth and Fifth Graders

    Open Access•Tiffany J Sinsel, Wallace E Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research in Music…•1997•References: 6

Music education researchers have found biological sex to be in important determinant of whether elementary students persevere in musical instrument training. Psychological sex type may also play an important role. A sample of 108 students from two elementary schools completed the Children's Sex Role Inventory (Boldizar, 1991) and, following a presentation of nine typical band instruments, completed a survey assessing most- and least-preferred ins…

  • Measures of linguistic and non-linguistic knowledge of objects in the second year

    Open Access•Cecilia Shore, Wallace E Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•First Language•1995

In comparing linguistic to non-linguistic categorization in children, researchers have typically considered children's ability to distinguish between classes from different superordinate categories. In this research we compared categorization of objects from basic level categories in both linguistic and non-linguistic domains. This study also added the additional control of using the same specific concepts in each domain. The sample consisted of …

  • Confirmatory Factor Analysis of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised With Normal and Psychiatric Adolescents

Timothy Anderson, Wallace E Dixon et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Research on Adolescence•1995•References: 1

The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) has received substantial factor analytic attention. The majority of these studies have been exploratory in nature and have supported Kaufman's (1979) finding of a three-factor solution. The few confirmatory factor analytic studies have provided some support for the three-factor interpretation over the two- and one-factor interpretations, but they have consistently failed to examine oth…
