  • D printer emissions elicit filament-specific and dose-dependent metabolic and genotoxic effects in human airway epithelial cells

Open Access•LMA Barnett, Qian Zhang et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Public Health•2024

Three-dimensional (3D) printers have become popular educational tools in secondary and post-secondary STEM curriculum; however, concerns have emerged regarding inhalation exposures and associated health risks. Current evidence suggests that filament materials and site conditions may cause differences in the chemical profiles and toxicological properties of 3D printer emissions; however, few studies have evaluated exposures directly in the classro…

  • Beschamende Bilder

    M Black, Maurice M Black•ARTICLE•German History•2014

Ulrike Weckel’s meticulously researched and fascinating monograph, Beschämende Bilder (which in the context of this book might be translated either as ‘shameful images’ or as ‘images to shame with’), is a history of the creation, by the American, British, French and Soviet armies, of atrocity films—that is, films documenting Nazi concentration and death camps—and German reactions to those films. Weckel argues that the films were made not only to …

  • Death and the Making of West Berlin, 1948-1961

    M Black, Michael D Black•ARTICLE•German History•2009•Cited by: 1

This essay traces shifts in attitudes towards death, practices of burial, and rituals of mourning in West Berlin from the 1948 currency reform to the 1961 construction of the Berlin Wall. It shows that West Berliners in the years immediately following the Second World War maintained an arduous devotion to their dead—particularly the war dead. Yet as the war became a less immediate experience over the course of the 1950s, broad cultural shifts too…

OBJECTIVES. Adolescents are increasingly at risk for infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted diseases, especially in poor urban minority communities. To aid the design of interventions in these communities, this study investigated the role of knowledge, attitudes, perceived parental monitoring, and peer behavior in the onset and progression of sexual behavior in children at risk for exposure to HIV. • The Recovery of the Language of Jesus

    Open Access•M Black, Mark C Black•ARTICLE•New Testament Studies•1957

Jesus and his disciples spoke a form of Semitic speech known as Palestinian Aramaic. This does not preclude their acquaintance with other languages in use in first-century Palestine, such as Hebrew or Greek. It seems on the whole unlikely, however, that Greek was ever used by Christ as a teaching medium, but he may have used Hebrew as well as Aramaic, on such solemn occasions, for instance, as at the Institution of the Last Supper
