  • Look into my eyes

Open Access•Zuzanna Szpak, Aleksandra Tyrzyk et al.•ARTICLE•Polish Psychological Bulletin•2025

This eye-tracking study aimed to explore the relationship between levels of gullibility and attentional allocation to threatening facial expressions. Using a dot-probe paradigm with concurrent eye-tracking, we found a distinct dissociation in how gullible versus non-gullible individuals process angry and neutral faces. While non-gullible participants demonstrated typical avoidance behaviors toward angry expressions, highly gullible individuals ex…

  • How Do Opinions Power the Group Up? A Critical Review of Social Identity Concepts in Opinion-Based Groups

    Anna Monik, Michał Parzuchowski•ARTICLE•Identity•2025

We conducted a meta-analysis and a narrative review of the concept of the social identity in opinion-based groups and its impact on intergroup relations. The following research questions were explored: what is the general predictive value of the construct in the realm of group dynamics? How does the process of identity shaping unfold? What determines the intensity of identification with like-minded people? What are the possible consequences of su…

  • Public Communication about Science in 68 Countries

    Open Access•Niels G Mede, Viktoria Cologna et al.•ARTICLE•Science Communication•2025•Referencias: 11

This 68-country survey ( n = 71,922) examines science information diets and communication behavior, identifies cross-country differences, and tests how such differences are associated with sociopolitical and economic conditions. We find that social media are the most used sources of science information in most countries, except those with democratic-corporatist media systems where news media tend to be used more widely. People in collectivist soc…

  • Victims of Conspiracies? An Examination of the Relationship Between Conspiracy Beliefs and Dispositional Individual Victimhood

    Open Access•Daniel Toribio-Florez, Marlene Altenmüller et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2025•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 77

Conspiracy beliefs have been linked to perceptions of collective victimhood. We adopt an individual perspective on victimhood by investigating the relationship between conspiracy beliefs and the individual disposition to perceive and react to injustice as a victim, i.e., victim justice sensitivity (VJS). Data from two German samples (Ns = 370, 373) indicated a positive association between VJS and conspiracy mentality beyond conceptually related c…

  • Trust in scientists and their role in society across 68 countries

    Open Access•Viktoria Cologna, Niels G Mede et al.•ARTICLE•Nature Human Behaviour•2025•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 76

Science is crucial for evidence-based decision-making. Public trust in scientists can help decision makers act on the basis of the best available evidence, especially during crises. However, in recent years the epistemic authority of science has been challenged, causing concerns about low public trust in scientists. We interrogated these concerns with a preregistered 68-country survey of 71,922 respondents and found that in most countries, most p…

  • Mind the Like-Minded. The Role of Social Identity in Prosocial Crowdfunding

    Open Access•Anna Monik, Michał Parzuchowski•ARTICLE•Social Science Computer Review•2023•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 11

Current social challenges have increased the interest in globally spread collective actions, especially those taking place in virtual space. Crowdfunding is one form of online activism that has recently gained importance. Although research conducted so far indicates the significance of social motives among participants of crowdfunding campaigns, knowledge about the psychosocial mechanisms involved in its effectiveness is limited. This article att…

  • Rear negativity

Open Access•Natalia Frankowska, Michał Parzuchowski et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2020•Referencias: 64

Many studies have explored the evaluative effects of vertical (up/down) or horizontal (left/right) spatial locations. However, little is known about the role of information that comes from the front and back. Basing our investigations on multiple theoretical considerations, we propose that spatial location of sounds is a cue for message valence, such that a message coming from behind is interpreted as more negative than a message presented in fro…

  • Warmer hearts, and warmer, but noisier rooms

    Open Access•Hans I Jzerman, Hans Ijzerman et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Experimental Social…•2016•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 3

  • Warmer Hearts, Warmer Rooms

Aleksandra Szymkow, Joan Chandler et al.•ARTICLE•Social Psychology•2013•Citada por: 2•Referencias: 47

Conceptual representations of warmth have been shown to be related to people's perceptions of ambient temperature. Based on this premise, we hypothesized that merely thinking about personality traits related to communion (but not agency) influences physical experience of warmth. Specifically, the three studies revealed that (a) perceptions of temperature are influenced by both positive and negative attributes within the communion but not agency d…

  • Self‐esteem is dominated by agentic over communal information

Open Access•Bogdan Wojciszke, Wiesław Baryła et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social…•2011•Citada por: 17•Referencias: 43

We present a Double Perspective Model (DPM) explaining why agency (competence) and communion (warmth) constitute two basic content dimensions of social cognition. Every social action involves two perspectives: of the agent (a person who performs an action) and of the recipient (a person at whom the action is directed). Immediate cognitive goals of the agent and recipient differ, which results in heightened accessibility and weight of content refe…

  • Well, slap my thigh

Michał Parzuchowski, Aleksandra Szymkow et al.•ARTICLE•Emotion•2008

Two studies examined the general prediction that one's emotional expression should facilitate memory for material that matches the expression. The authors focused on specific facial expressions of surprise. In the first study, participants who were mimicking a surprised expression showed better recall for the surprising words and worse recall for neutral words, relative to those who were mimicking a neutral expression. Study 2 replicated the resu…
