Some Last Century Accounts of the Indians of Southern California
Musical Culture and Ethnic Solidarity
Roger C. Owen, Nancy E. Walstrom, Ralph C. Michelsen, Musical Culture and Ethnic Solidarity: A Baja California Case Study, The Journal of American Folklore, Vol. 82, No. 324 (Apr. - Jun., 1969), pp. 99-111

Assertions, Assumptions, and Early Horizon (Oak Grove) Settlement Patterns in Southern California

It is unlikely that the Early Horizon in …

Unlike most of the anti-Porfirista fires then burning in other parts of Mexico, the invasion and revolution in Baja California was not solely an attempt to oust Diaz; but was also an attempt to inaugurate a social…

Paddle and Anvil Appearance of Some Sonoran Pottery
While engaged in recent ethnological field work in the San Miguel Valley of northeastern Sonora, I had occasion to observe a potter at work. This area, in aboriginal times, was inhabited by the Opata Indian tribe. Today it is predominantly mestizo racially, and culturally is a blend of aboriginal, early Spanish, and Mexican traits. I was assured by many people that the potter, who is extremely Indian in appearance, was 'pura indigina
