The psychometric properties of the Sibling Relationship Inventory (SRI; Stocker & McHale, 1992) were examined in two independent samples. One consisted of 206 American children aged 6-12 years, the other of 452 Dutch children aged 5-12 years. A factorial structure with three dimensions (affection, hostility, rivalry) was demonstrated. In a study of internationally adopted children in the Netherlands 399 children placed with one or more siblings were followed up approximately ten years after placement. A comparison of problem behavior in this group with that of 1,749 children placed alone shows that the adoption of sibling groups is relatively successful
