  • A longitudinal study of tooth growth in a single individual based on long- and short-period incremental markings in dentine and enamel

    Open Access•M Christopher Dean, A D Beynon et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•1993•Cited by: 39•References: 18

Ground sections of teeth from a single individual revealed approximately 30 fluorescent lines in the dentine resulting from successive courses of tetracycline antibiotics given over a period of approximately 12 years. In addition, many teeth showed long-period incremental markings in the dentine. Short-period daily cross-striations in the enamel were used to calculate the periodicity of the long-period incremental lines in both enamel and dentine…

  • An Improved Method for Age at Death Determination From the Measurement of D‐aspartic Acid in Dental Collagen

    Open Access•R D GILLARD, A M Pollard et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1990•Cited by: 1•References: 15

  • Patterns of approximal wear in cheek teeth of a Romano‐British population

    Open Access•D K Whittaker, S Ryan et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Physical…•1987•Cited by: 4•References: 18

The approximal surfaces of premolars and molars of 376 adult British‐Romano skulls were examined for wear facets. The type of wear was designated as convex, concave, sigmoid, or flat, and the degree was categorised on a three‐point scale. Concave wear facets were more frequently seen in the older age groups, but the type of wear was similar on right and left sides. Taking all teeth together or as individual tooth types, concave wear was significa…

  • The Lead, Cadmium and Zinc Content of Some Romano‐british Teeth

    Open Access•D K Whittaker, Maurice V Stack•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•1984•Cited by: 3•References: 9

The lead, cadmium and zinc content of deciduous and permanent teeth extracted from Romano‐British skulls was measured using atomic absorption spectrometry. Mineral content is reported in μg/g of samples obtained by pulverising whole teeth prior to chemical preparation and analysis. The overall levels of lead and zinc were higher in deciduous than permanent teeth. Lead levels in conservatively cleaned teeth were twice as high in deciduous compared…
