Grounded in health behavior theory, this study examined patterns of preventive health behavior in a culturally diverse, multilingual region of northern Italy using data from a representative population survey (n = 2090). Preventive behaviors were assessed using the 16-item Good Health Practices (GHP-16) scale. Latent profile analysis (LPA) identified five behavioral profiles, ranging from ‘Globally Low Engagers’ to ‘Comprehensive High Engagers’. …

Open Access•Dietmar Ausserhofer, Verena Barbieri et al.•ARTICLE•European Journal of Investigation…•2025

Health literacy is crucial for effectively navigating health systems and promoting equitable health outcomes. Open Access•Verena Barbieri, Stefano Lombardo et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2025

Distinct spiritual attitudes and convictions may promote scepticism towards medical interventions, potentially influencing vaccine attitudes. This study investigated the impact of spirituality and CAM (complementary and alternative medicine) use on perceptions of vaccine harmfulness, with a focus on COVID-19 and mandatory childhood vaccinations. Additionally, it examines whether spirituality indirectly influences vaccine hesitancy through CAM use…

  • Social Cognition and Interpersonal Problems in Persistent Depressive Disorder vs. Episodic Depression

Open Access•Nele Struck, Thomas Gärtner et al.•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Psychiatry•2021

Objective: Little is known about the specific psychological features that differentiate persistent depressive disorder (PDD) and episodic depression (ED). Thus, the present study aimed to investigate differences in social cognition and interpersonal problems between these two forms of depression and healthy controls. In addition, we aimed to examine childhood maltreatment (CM) as a possible origin of these alterations. Methods: In a cross-section…

A number of difficult passages of [Verg.] Culex are discussed. In some cases lacunae seem more helpful than textual changes, and in general the author’s very careful use of elisions should be observed. Thomas Gärtner•ARTICLE•Acta Antiqua Academiae…•2009

The present paper examines the crucial passages in Lucanus, Valerius Flaccus, Statius and Sily concerning suicide. Lucanus presents a fanatical eulogy of suicide, Valerius Flaccus a rather calculated approach which is guided by almost philosophical considerations resembling those given by the philosopher Seneca, Statius focuses on the problem of self determination and tyranny. Sily’s account of the Saguntine suicide combines and modifies differen…

  • Überlegungen zur Bedeutung der Makrostrukturellen Buchgliederungsform Antiker Romane Thomas GÄrtner

    Thomas Gärtner•ARTICLE•Acta Antiqua Academiae…•2009

Close examination of the arithmetic structure of book composition in Greek novels reveals in various degrees a constant pattern of dichotomy: In the first part of the novels the heroes stray about looking for each other while in the second part they meet for a stationary final scene at the court of a married couple of potentates, involving some kind of judgement. Furthermore, in the second section of the paper the individual technique of book clo…

    Thomas Gärtner•ARTICLE•Mnemosyne•2007•Cited by: 4

This paper is concerned with the fragments of the early Hellenistic catalogue poem by Phanokles. It falls into three sections: The first enquires into the general tendency of Phanokles' work, as far as is permitted by the fragmentary transmission, especially in comparison with another similar catalogue-like poem contained in POxy. 3723. The following two sections concentrate on the literary reception of Phanokles, i.e. the Orpheus segment, first …

  • Überlegungen zur Genese der römischen Liebeselegie aus der hellenistischen Dichtung

    Thomas Gärtner•ARTICLE•Acta Antiqua Academiae…•2006•Cited by: 16

This paper tries to develop the characteristics of Roman love elegy from the scanty remains of Greek Hellenistic elegy. The most important Hellenistic predecessors of love elegy are poems mourning a deceased partner, like the Lyde of Antimachos of Kolophon and the Epikedeion Aretes of Parthenios of Nikaia. These poems seem to have contained at least some subjective passages, even if they are difficult to verify in the fragmentary tradition. The n…

  • Objektives Fatum und Subjektive Fatumsgläubigkeit im Bürgerkriegsepos des Lucan

    Thomas Gärtner•ARTICLE•Acta Antiqua Academiae…•2005

The present article examines the concept of a malicious fatum as evolved by the narrator of Lucan's Bellum civile and especially the subjective attitudes adopted by the protagonists Caesar, Pompey and Cato towards this destructive force. Since Lucan's fatum is not benevolent but malicious and hence contrary to the Stoic doctrine, the ethical value of the protagonists is not measured by their readiness to follow fate (as Stoics would have done), b…

    Thomas Gärtner•ARTICLE•Acta Antiqua Academiae…•2004

The present article examines the exact relationship between the prose of Solinus and the medieval versifications by Theodericus and the author of De monstris Indie (Jakobi has shown De monstris Indie as beingdependent on Theodericus). A close analysis of the different rhyming and elision techniques adopted by Theodericus and the redactor of De monstris Indie helps to emend some passages. The redactor of De monstris Indie is demonstrated not only …

  • Die Musen Im Dienste Christi

    Thomas Gärtner•ARTICLE•Vigiliae Christianae•2004

The present article examines the arguments by which early Christian poets in Late Antiquity justify their attempt to combine Christian content and pagan poetical form. It focuses on the poetologically significant parts of their works, especially the proems. Whereas the earliest poets, i.e.Proba, Prudentius and Orientius, justify Christian poetry by its effects on the poet's personality and in the context of the poet's life, Juvencus prefigures an…
