Codex Zacynthius: Catena, Palimpsest, Lectionary
This book consists of a series of studies of Codex Zacynthius (Cambridge, University Library MS Add. 10062), the earliest surviving New Testament commentary manuscript in catena format. A research project funded by the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council has produced new multispectral images of the palimpsest undertext in order to enable a thorough investigation of the manuscript and the creation of a complete electronic edition. This volume,…

An Introduction to the New Testament Manuscripts and their Texts
This book is a major English-language introduction to the earliest manuscripts of the New Testament. An essential handbook for scholars and students, it provides a thorough grounding in the study and editing of the New Testament text combined with an emphasis on the dramatic current developments in the field. Covering ancient sources in Greek, Syriac, Latin and Coptic, it: • Describes the manuscripts and other ancient textual evidence, and the to…
Some New Manuscripts of the Greek New Testament in Boston and Cambridge
A visit in November 1999 to libraries in Boston and Cambridge in order to view Greek manuscripts of the New Testament yielded two groups comprising a total of six manuscripts not—so far as we are aware—widely known. The purpose of this article is to offer a description of the manuscripts, with an account of what we have been able to discover about them
The Living Text of the Gospels
This book represents an important departure in Gospel studies and textual criticism. David Parker offers a different way of reading the Gospels which treats seriously the fact that they first existed as manuscripts. Through an analysis of the different forms of a number of key passages, he demonstrates that the Gospels cannot be properly understood as texts without taking into consideration their physical existence as manuscripts, printed books a…
Codex Bezae. Studies from the Lunel Colloquium June 1994
A group of biblical and patristic scholars and palaeographers met in Lunel, Herault, in June 1995 to discuss the many questions posed by Codex Bezae to our understanding of the use of the Gospels and Acts in early Christianity, and of the text of the New Testament. This collection makes the papers and debates of the colloquium available for a wider discussion. The papers cover two broad areas. The first addresses palaeographical questions. The se…

The Translation of OΥn in the Old Latin Gospels
This study became necessary in the course of my work on Codex Bezae. I wished to ascertain the degree of consistency with which the version used one Latin word to translate one Greek one, in order to find differences between the Mss, to assess their usefulness in supporting Greek readings, and to place the relation between the two columns of Codex Bezae in a new light. The advantages in choosing οὖν were, first its frequency, second its insignifi…
