  • The Design and Development of a Closed Chamber for the in-situ Quantification of Dryland Soil Carbon Dioxide Fluxes

    Open Access•S R Hoon, Andrew D Thomas et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Research•2009•References: 28

This paper describes the design features and capabilities of a portable automated in-situ closed chamber (ISCC) for the quantification of CO2 fluxes in dryland soils where both photosynthetic and respiratory components may be associated with a cyanobacterial crust. The processes of CO2 flux in dryland soils are briefly described in order to clarify the conditions that make quantification of these fluxes problematic. The instrumentation currently …

  • Narrative Geography in Guy Vanderhaeghe's The Englishman's Boy

Patricia Linton•ARTICLE•The American Review of Canadian…•2001

In this article, the authors propose that APA style involves more than a set of explicit guidelines for presenting information; it also incorporates a variety of unarticulated practices that reflect fundamental attitudes and values of psychologists. The authors examine some of the less obviou…

  • The role of internal standards in assessment of written discourse

    Susan Johnson, Susan K Johnson et al.•ARTICLE•Discourse Processes•1994•References: 17

Writers evaluate works in progress to make critical editorial decisions about content and style. It is proposed that this evaluative process is guided by a writer's internal standards, which define when writing is correct, appropriate, and complete. An analysis of the internal standards concept leads to the prediction that the match between the standards of the writer and the standards of readers should be an important predictor of how the reader…
