The anthropogenic transformation of an island landscape: Evidence for agricultural development revealed by LiDAR on the island of Efate, Central Vanuatu, South‐West Pacific
Traditional agricultural systems have been a fundamental research focus of Pacific archaeologists for decades. In many island groups, it has been demonstrated that whole landscapes have been transformed to facilitate increased agricultural production. High‐resolution digital elevation models (DEM) derived from recent LiDAR survey data from Efate, Central Vanuatu, have now revealed that much of that island was completely modified by human activity…
Root crops diversity and agricultural resilience: A case study of traditional agrosystems in Vanuatu (Oceania)
Community Food Security: Resilience and Vulnerability in Vanuatu
Coping with insularity: The need for crop genetic improvement to strengthen adaptation to climatic change and food security in the Pacific
Spatial Representation of Land Use and Population Density: Integrated Layers of Data Contribute to Environmental Planning in Vanuatu
Is the Quality of Kava ( Piper methysticum Forst. f.) Responsible for Different Geographical Patterns
We argue that kava (Piper methysticum Forst. f.) is a Pacific domesticate that originated in Melanesia. We provide botanical, chemical, genetic and cultural evidence to sug- gest that farmers in the northern part of Vanuatu were the first to select the species as an asexually reproduced root crop. From Vanuatu, cultivars were carried eastward into Polynesia and westward into areas of New Guinea and Micronesia. Using herbarium data, isozyme and AF…
Morphological, phytochemical, and genetic variation in hawaiian cultivars of ’Awa (Kava,Piper methysticum, piperaceae)
The Origin And Distribution Of Kava
