En 1922 et 1923 parurent deux traductions en russe du Paradoxe sur le comédien et ce texte fut au centre d'intenses discussions chez les dramaturges et les théoriciens russes. Une enquête fut même menée auprès de quinze comédiens des théâtres moscovites. Pour sa part, comme le confirme son exemplaire personnel, Stanislavski a lu très attentivement l'essai de Diderot, dont il méditait les thèses depuis une dizaine d'années

The article investigates some textual coincidences between Denis Diderot's major works on art and theater and the Formalist manifesto "Art as Device" by Victor Shklovsky.
