  • A neighbourhood Output Area Classification from the 2021 and 2022 UK censuses

    Open Access•Jakub Wyszomierski, Paul Longley et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 23

UK-wide multivariate neighbourhood classifications have been built using small area population data following every census since 1971, and have been built using Output Area geographies since 2001. Policy makers in both the public and private sectors find such taxonomies, typically arranged into hierarchies of Supergroups, Groups and Subgroups, useful across a wide range of applications in business and service planning. Recent and forthcoming rele…

  • Interactive mapping for large, open demographic data sets using familiar geographical features

    Open Access•Oonagh O''Brien, James Cheshire•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

Ever-increasing numbers of large demographic data sets are becoming available. Many of these data sets are provided as open data, but are in basic repositories where it is incumbent on the user to generate their own visualisations and analysis in order to garner insights. In a bid to facilitate the use and exploration of such data sets, we have created a web mapping platform called DataShine. We link data from the 2011 Census for England and Wale…

  • Mining bicycle sharing data for generating insights into sustainable transport systems

  • OP21 Modelled Health Impacts of the London Cycle Hire Scheme

A Goodman, Marko Tainio et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2013

Background Bicycle sharing systems are being implemented in many cities worldwide, but have received little robust evaluation. We modelled the impacts of the London cycle hire scheme (LCH) upon the health of its users. Methods Data sources included total-population operational registration and usage data for LCH (April 2011-March 2012); surveys of LCH users (2011); and London data on travel, physical activity, road traffic collisions and PM2.5 ai…
