  • The main measuring point of the first Polish geodetic network on the summit of Łysica in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains in the light of verification archaeological research

Open Access•Szymon Orzechowski, Bartosz Kozak et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Archaeologica Carpathica•2022

The first professional geodetic network on Polish soil was established in 1829-1835. It was created for the mines and factories of the Old Polish Industrial District, which remained the largest centre of mining and metallurgy in Poland until the end of the 19th century. The main measuring point was established on the summit of Mount Łysica in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. However, it was promptly destroyed and, despite detailed data published by …

  • Socio-economic determinants of iron production on Polish lands during antiquity: The phenomenon of metallurgical smelting centres of the Przeworsk culture

    Open Access•Szymon Orzechowski•ARTICLE•Archeologické rozhledy•2018

Metallurgical activity of the peoples living in the area known as Germania Magna is characterized by an extensive and ad hoc nature which clearly is different from the centralized Roman production model. In the so-called Barbarian parts of Europe however, there were regions where there was a specialized and identifiably large mass production of iron. On Polish lands three such centres were active – in the Holy Cross Mountains, in West Masovia and…

  • Visible movements of the orofacial area: Evidence for gestural or multimodal theories of language evolution

ławomir Wacewicz, Przemysław Żywiczyński et al.•ARTICLE•Gesture•2016•Cited by: 4•References: 14

The age-old debate between the proponents of the gesture-first and speech-first positions has returned to occupy a central place in current language evolution theorizing. The gestural scenarios, suffering from the problem known as "modality transition" (why a gestural system would have changed into a predominantly spoken system), frequently appeal to the gestures of the orofacial area as a platform for this putative transition. Here, we review cu…

  • Chronologie de la métallurgie ancienne dans les Montagnes Sainte-Croix (Pologne) vue à travers les recherches sur l'habitat

    Open Access•Szymon Orzechowski•ARTICLE•Pallas•1999•References: 1
