A prospective study of hospitalization with gallstone disease among women: Role of dietary factors, fasting period, and dieting
BACKGROUND: Dietary risk factors for the development of gallstones have not been clearly established. We analyzed data from a population-based prospective study to determine dietary risk factors for hospitalization with gallstone disease. METHODS: We evaluated the role of dietary constituents, fasting, and dieting on subsequent hospitalization with gallstone disease among 4,730 women, ages 25 to 74 years, who participated in the first follow-up o…
Evolution of mandibular arcades: A statistical study
The alveolar arcades of a large number of fossil mandibles including Australopithecus and hominids fromHomo habilis andHomo erectus up to modern man have been characterized by fourteen cartesian points each representing a tooth. From these points, dimensions and angles have been calculated. These values are correlated to the geological age of the fossils. A linear dependance of dimensions and angles on the logarithm of age has been found. These r…

Buying a Labour Party: Fowlds, Mills and the U.L.P
The United Labour Party was formed at a conference in Wellington in April 1912. It owed its origin to the initiative of a somewhat unsavoury American, ‘Professor’ Walter Thomas Mills, who arrived in New Zealand on 4 June 1911. Unscrupulous in financial and sexual matters, Mills was from all accounts a brilliant orator and an outstanding organiser, though his record in American labour organisations was deplorable
