Microaggressions and disablism
The study explores how disabled students experience microaggressions as everyday expressions of disablism within higher education institutions. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA), the study examines everyday interactions that undermine disabled students’ autonomy, identity and status as epistemic and social participants. Eight domains of microaggressions were identified, including denial of identity, patronisation, and desexual…
The Development of the “Checklist for Life Skills Educational Assessment” (CLSEA)
Students with developmental disabilities constitute a heterogeneous group with significant difficulties in adaptive behavior. It is expected that educational programs are equipped with the appropriate resources to support students and promote their skills related to adaptive behavior, such as life skills. A critical issue for the development and implementation of appropriate educational interventions in the domain of life skills is the availabili…

Social and emotional competencies as predictors of student engagement in youth
Student engagement research in university students has been scarce, despite its major positive role on performance, degree completion and mental health. Social and emotional competencies, which are currently called twenty-first-century skills, exert some impact on student engagement in youth. Since engagement is cultural-sensitive, individual (social and emotional competencies) and cross-cultural (human developmental index and unemployment rate) …
Teachers’ Self-Efficacy during the Covid-19 Pandemic in Greece
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a sudden and radical transition from face-to-face to online teaching across the globe. This shift has required teachers to quickly adapt their educational practices, which has had an impact on their perceived self-efficacy. The limited literature on the impact of COVID-19 on teachers’ self-efficacy (TSE) has focused mostly on online teaching. The purpose of this study was to investigate TSE in both face-to-face an…

Animal Abuse and Bullying/Victimization in a Community Sample of School-Age Children
In recent years school bullying and other forms of aggressive behaviors in children and adolescents have become an issue of great concern among parents, psychologists, and educators. This study examined the relationship between school bullying and animal abuse in a community sample of school-age children. One hundred and seventy-four elementary school students from central Greece participated in the study and filled in self-report questionnaires …
Microaggressions and Psychosocial Adjustment among Greek University Students with Disabilities
This study investigated differences in experiences of microaggressions between students with different characteristics (type, visibility, severity, and onset of impairment) and associations between the occurrence of microaggressions and specific psychological dimensions, such as stress, depression, self-esteem, and life satisfaction. It also examined how the afore-mentioned psychological factors and microaggressions contribute to students’ adjust…

Bully/victim problems and their association with Machiavellianism and self-efficacy in Greek primary school children
Background: Previous research demonstrated that Machiavellian beliefs are linked with bully/victim problems at school. However, Machiavellianism was treated as a single construct and not as multidimensional. Children's perceptions of self-efficacy in both social and academic domains have been related to conflictual peer interactions but not directly to bully/victim problems. This study extends previous work by examining the association of Machiav…
Bully/victim problems and their association with psychological constructs in 8- to 12-year-old Greek schoolchildren
The aim of the present study was to replicate some of the already existing findings regarding the assessment of bully/victim problems in a sample of Greek primary school pupils using the Bullying Behaviour Scale and the Peer Victimisation Scale [Austin S, Joseph S (1996): British Journal of Educational Psychology 66:447–456] and to extend the investigation of the association between bully/victim problems and personality by examining the self-este…
