Examining use of restaurant nutrition information among adults living in England engaged in disordered eating or weight management efforts
Calorie labels on menus are a popular policy initiative to help consumers to reduce their energy intake. Consumers trying to improve their diet may benefit from the labels if they help inform eating decisions. However, it is not well known how some groups, such as those with disordered eating, may view a calorie labelling policy and engage with nutritional labels in England. Using 2021 International Food Policy Study data from 2,898 adults in Eng…
Exploring sociodemographic and nutrition-related correlates of meal-kit use across five countries
Objective: To assess the frequency and correlates of meal-kit use across five countries using population-level data. Design: Online surveys conducted in 2022 assessed meal-kit use in the past week. Binary logistic regression models examined sociodemographic and nutrition-related correlates of meal-kit use, including self-reported home meal preparation and cooking skills, commercially prepared meal consumption and healthy eating, weight change and…
In-store beverage pricing and marketing before and after a sugar-sweetened beverage tax in Newfoundland and Labrador
Objective: Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) introduced Canada’s first excise tax on sugar-sweetened beverages (SSB) in 2022. Industry marketing practices in response to SSB taxation may affect public health impacts. We examined changes in posted beverage pricing and marketing of taxable and non-taxable beverages in NL before and after the SSB tax was implemented. Design: Pre-/post-observational study with in-store audits of beverage prices and mark…
Assessing the impact of a mandatory calorie labelling policy in out-of-home food outlets in England on consumer behaviour
The introduction of mandatory calorie labelling in England led to increases in self-reported noticing and using, with the key behavioural impact on ordering something different. Additional strategies may be required to maximise the public health benefits of calorie labelling
Association between the diagnosis of diet-related non-communicable diseases and the use of nutritional labeling among Mexican, Mexican American, and non-Mexican American adults
Diet-related non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are major global health concerns. Front-of-package warning labels (WLs) and nutrition facts labels (NFLs) aim to promote healthier food choices, yet their use among individuals with NCDs and across populations remains underexplored. This study uniquely compares two labeling systems (WL and NFL) and examines the association between NCD diagnosis and label use among Mexican, Mexican American, and non-Me…
The impact of exposure to sugary drink marketing on youth brand preference and recall
Similar results were observed among children and adolescents within all countries. Global marketing policies should consider older children and adolescents to adequately protect and support child health
Children’s self-reported exposure to sugary beverage advertisements and association with intake across six countries before and during the Covid-19 pandemic
Exposure to digital advertisements for sugary beverages increased from 2019 to 2021 in most countries, and exposure was associated with sugary beverage intake. Reducing children's exposure to advertising of less healthy foods, including on digital media, may reduce sugary beverage intake
The equitable impact of sugary drink taxation structures on sugary drink consumption among Canadians
Objective: Estimate the impact of 20 % flat-rate and tiered sugary drink tax structures on the consumption of sugary drinks, sugar-sweetened beverages and 100 % juice by age, sex and socio-economic position. Design: We modelled the impact of price changes – for each tax structure – on the demand for sugary drinks by applying own- and cross-price elasticities to self-report sugary drink consumption measured using single-day 24-h dietary recalls fr…
The impact of fast food marketing on brand preferences and fast food intake of youth aged 10–17 across six countries

Effects of front-of-package caffeine and sweetener disclaimers in Mexico
Objective: Front-of-package warning labels introduced in Mexico in 2020 included disclaimers that caution against allowing children to consume products with non-sugary sweeteners and caffeine. We also investigated their impact on the perceived healthfulness of industrialised beverages designed for children. Design: Dat…
Consumer perceptions of legal cannabis products in Canada, 2019–2021
Three years since legalization, Canadian cannabis consumers generally had increasingly favourable perceptions of legal vs. illegal products - except for price - with variation across the provinces and frequency of cannabis use. To achieve public health objectives of legalization, federal and provincial governments must ensure that legal cannabis products are preferred to illegal, without appealing to non-consumers

Design: Six-arm randomised controlled experiment to examine the impact of FOP labels (no label control, Guideline Daily Amounts (GDA), Multiple Traffic Lights, the Health Star Ratings …
Associations between online food outlet access and online food delivery service use amongst adults in the UK
The number of food outlets accessible online is positively associated with online food delivery service use. Adults with the highest education, younger adults, those living with children, and females, were particularly susceptible to the greatest online food outlet access. Further research is required to investigate the possible health implications of online food delivery service use
A quantitative study of letters to the editor by medical students in medical education journals
Letters to the Editor offer ways for readers to engage with authors' publications. Letters are the shortest manuscript for medical students to publish and medical-education journals are best suited. The UK Foundation Programme rewards medical students achieving PubMed ID publications and we hypothesise that this is a main motivation for medical students to submit Letters to the Editor. A review of 15 medical-education journals with an impact fact…
