Resettling Displaced Communities
Global trends suggest that the number of people involuntarily displaced will increase exponentially in the coming decades. The authors argue that when the agency, time-tested adaptations, innovative capacities, dignity, and human rights of displaced people are respected as full participants in the rebuilding of their communities, livelihoods and standards of living, resettlement outcomes are more positive. Multilateral Governmental Organizations
This chapter discusses the challenges of practicing anthropology in multilateral governmental organizations. It discusses in detail the culture of one such multilateral, the World Bank, and provides us with an account of the author's activities there as an anthropologist. The author discusses two consultancies on resettlement operations in projects, one in India and the other in Latin America. These and other consultancies convinced him that one …

This article examines Prilleltensky's concept of psychopolitical validity in terms of its locus within the continuum of individual‐relational‐collective well‐being. It argues that the strength of Prilleltensky's position is its emphasis on the need for structural changes in power relationships rather than the imposition of ameliorative interventions. Political action, however, is necessary to advance human well‐being by reducing power inequities.…

This article examines the evolution of the traditionalism-modernism model in Latin America and critically reviews several recent tests in the region that appear to suggest that the typology should be revised as a theoretical system explaining social change. With this statement as a general basis, five hypotheses are formulated, taking urbanization as the independent variable for attitude toward change, structural complexity, and social mobility. …
